Stop-Off for the North
Review of Phitsanulok (Thailand) by JeffSumm

Advantages: good place distance-wise to stop
Disadvantages: not much to do compared with other cities in Thailand

Phitsanulok seems to get most of its visitors by virtue of its location-- it is a long train journey from both Bangkok and Chiang Mai but each journey is do-able in a day. Phi-lok is the natural stopping point. There are a few nice Wats here, such as Wa ... Read review

Quiet and relaxing break
Review of Nong Khai (Thailand) by oedipus

Advantages: Quiet, friendly, good food
Disadvantages: Out of the way if you're not heading to Laos

For most people, Nong Khai is a stopping-off point before venturing into Laos, accessible via the Friendship Bridge 2km down the road. But if you have the time its well worth spending a day or two here (especially if you've come from the bustle of Bangkok ... Read review

I know that Pattaya is not for everyone. I beleive that you only get what you look for. Which can be said about any city. Was a little upset about your choice of words "intimidating poverty". You have to remeber that there is no Social Security in this Country/No pension. The average Thai only earns between 80 to 150 pounds per month. It costs around 80 pound (plus) to stay one night in Hospital. Despite all this. Crime is very low and the people are amongst the best you will ever meet. We all must bear this in mind when visiting this country. by Scott
A good review. I think the food in Thailand is also something special. Ray by ashford
