Papua New Guinea - Port Moresby and around
Review of General: Papua New Guinea by webfoot

Advantages: Stunningly beautiful, friendly English speaking people
Disadvantages: Dangerous, unless you follow stringent rules.

I made five one month trips to PNG through 2007. Apart from the small isolated patch of jungle where I worked, my main impression from a visitor's point of view was in Port Moresby, the capital, and Lalouta Island (Dive Centre) about 5kms away. General ... Read review

The lady sitting opposite me right now used to live in Port Moresby - she says you captured it perfectly! Fiona by fizzytom
A most interesting review. A friend of mine worked in PNG in the early 70s and did a lot of exploring in the interior, with some hair-raising escapades, but he loved it. by torr

Airways Hotel
Review of Airways Hotel, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea by ransj

Advantages: Close to airport, clean and secure, great restaurant, bar and pool on the roof
Disadvantages: Close to airport, little way out of town.

I stayed at the Airways Hotel back in October 2004 having missed a flight up to the Tufi Dive Resort. Prior to arriving in PNG I had heard a few stories about Port Moresby, and the advice was not to stay too long in town, so to find I would have to make a ... Read review

I stayed here on and off throught 2007 on my way through to my place of work further west and inland. It is indeed an oasis of pleasure after a few weeks in the jungle in a "dry" camp.! I didn't rate the food as much as you, my salads in particular were just a few pieces of tattered tired lettuce with no attempt at any dressing or "bits" to spruce it up a bit. Very friendly waiters and waitrsses once you finally get their attention (It was always busy when I was there and very difficult to get a room) Yes it is a DC3! by webfoot
It is a very interesting place. The geology is very impressive, as is the cluture and quality of diving available. by ransj

Wouldnt want to be a tourist!
Review of General: Papua New Guinea by Ozgal

Advantages: Breathtaking country!
Disadvantages: Rascals, unemployment, thieving

I spent 16 years in one of the most beautiful countries of the world and although I loved living there I wouldnt recommend it as a tourist destination. Papua New Guinea is an island located north of Australia. Half of the island belongs to Indonesia an ... Read review

I rate your review Very Helpful because you say it as it really is, which isn't always an island paradise that it could be. Even four years after you wrote it, things haven't changed - I have been going there on and off throught 2007 on business. But it is a pretty place and lovely friendly people nearly all of whom speak English in varying degrees of "pidjin" by webfoot

PNG - Land of Extremes
Review of Milne Bay Province (Papua New Guinea) by gennymutant

Advantages: Brilliant experience, unforgettable taste of a culture very different from my own.
Disadvantages: High crime rate in the capital city.

If you are looking for an intense cultural experience, a taste of a world very different from your own, you can't go past a visit to Papua New Guinea. From the dense tropical rain forests of the highlands to the beautiful palm fringed islands, it is a lan ... Read review
