I had wondered about getting one of these, but my electric steamer has a container specifically for cooking rice, and works well - so as I rarely cook rice for more than four people it wouldn't be worthwhile having a gadget just for that. And we've found by trial and error that approx 1/3 cup (uncooked) rice makes as much as we can eat at a meal! by Kukana

I tend to use microwave rice and leave the cooking of it in a pan to hubby by rojm

Sounds like you've touched on a couple of reasons why it was so cheap. My simple rule for basmati rice is 1 cup rice to 1 and 3/4 cups water, bring to the boil and then turn down to a low simmer for 12mins or so - and a pot on the cooker is perfectly adequate. My slo-cooker, now that's a different story altogether and a device that makes wonderful stews, but not a thing I'd try to cook rice in. by pgn0
