See no evil - in fact, you don't really see the evil one
Review of The Invisible Man - H. G. Wells by JOHNV

Advantages: Exciting, well-constructed story
Disadvantages: Possibly a little dated for some

The author Regarded as one of the fathers of science fiction, H.G. Wells (1866-1946) wrote more than a hundred books during his career, including novels, collections of short stories, and non-fiction. Most of his sci-fi novels and shorter works da ... Read review

Review of Barrayar - Lois Mcmaster Bujold by Secre

Advantages: Wonderful writing, narrative, characters
Disadvantages: Nothing

ďItís not that Iím not upset; itís just that Iím too tired to run up and down the corridor screaming. Barrayar is one of the earliest books in the Vorkosigan saga written by Louis Bujold and I will warn you now that once you start this saga you wonít b ... Read review

Review of Snuff: Discworld Novel 39 - Sir Terry Pratchett by StewwyB

Advantages: It covers subjects deeper than Lake Coniston, but flows like a small stream to read
Disadvantages: We'll never have the priveledge of a follow on in the DIscworld series now he's gone.

INTRODUCTION I found out on Friday just gone that Sir Terry Pratchett had died in his bed, surrounded by his family and with his cat sleeping at the foot of the bed the day before. I hope he went quietly and painlessly, no-one deserves any less ... Read review

Review of Islands Of Rage And Hope - John Ringo by Coloneljohn

Advantages: They just keep getting better.
Disadvantages: Not everybody will like the science fiction aspect of the author.

Possess Dispossessed
Review of The Dispossessed - Ursula K. Le Guin by 87degrees

Advantages: really interesting, complex characters, makes you think
Disadvantages: a little confusing at first with the time jumps

The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a science fiction novel dealing with issues of equality that are as relevant today as when it was written in 1979. It is set on the distant world of Urras and its moon Anarres. Generations ago, there was a revolutio ... Read review

How do you overthrow a God?
Review of The Saviour - David Drake, Tony Daniel by Coloneljohn

Advantages: A fast paced, entertaining read.
Disadvantages: Nothing for me but some do not like science fiction

In giving the background information on this and the previous work I may inadvertently give certain spoilers, though I try not to give away the full narrative of the plot elements. The Land. Duisberg is a land rather like ancient Egypt. Imagin ... Read review

American Gods
Review of American Gods - Neil Gaiman by StewwyB

Advantages: If you take it as a story at face value, it's awesome
Disadvantages: I didn't quite understand the underlying messages about god

A good review, I have read the shorter version, which was hard enough work. I must re-read Pratchett's Small Gods and see what parallels there are... I am told the film and the book Stardust are as alike as chalk and cheese, so I must make the effort to read Stardust the book. by pgn0

Five Stories in Search of an Author
Review of From Dead to Worse - Charlaine Harris by sharper_fin

Advantages: Lots of character detail
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of one linear story

Back in 2001 author Charlaine Harris wrote 'Dead Until Dark', the first in a series that she called 'The Southern Vampire Mysteries'. Sales of the first few novels in the series were reasonable, but then in 2008 American broadcaster HBO began showing a s ... Read review

Review of Seeds of Earth - Michael Cobley by hiker

Advantages: A brilliant concept...
Disadvantages: ...that's a bit time-consuming to get into

We're all doomed - especially Woking.
Review of The War of the Worlds - H.G. Wells by misspurple7

Advantages: Readable, unique and chillingly believable. A classic and rightly so.
Disadvantages: A little gruesome in places and perhaps not the most twisting of plotlines

In the season of Christmas cheer, goodwill to all men and all that malarky, we decided our festive treat would be to witness the theatrical end of the world. Cheery. Jeff Wayne's musical telling of War of the Worlds was on at the O2 and never has the dest ... Read review

Review of Millennial Hospitality III - Charles James Hall by Trish1996

Advantages: Unique experiences related in a factual manner.
