Run Lola, run !
Review of Random Acts Of Senseless Violence - Jack Womack by dee7778

Advantages: Engaging character and good plot
Disadvantages: Sometimes seems a bit dated

After hearing a discussion about Random Acts of Senseless Violence on Radio 4, I decided to give it a try. It was presented as a relatively unknown work of science fiction; a dystopian coming of age novel that was unrecognised at the time of publication ... Read review

The Foundation of Sci-Fi?
Review of Foundation - Isaac Asimov by bbicuk01

Advantages: Great characters and an interesting plot
Disadvantages: Poor proofreading from publishers Voyager

As a sci-fi fan for the best part of my reading life I had never plucked up the courage to read anything by Isaac Asimov. As a youth I had always thought that the books would be dull and uninteresting and hard to read. This may well have been true when I ... Read review

Plots within plots.
Review of Fire with Fire - Charles E Gannon by Coloneljohn

Advantages: A very convoluted but entertaining story.
Disadvantages: Some will be put off by the science fiction nature of the story.

Charles E Gannon is a name I hadn't come across as a solo writer. I had found him involved in some collaboration though. So I was interested to see what he could make of a solo story. And this is the result, a real find from an author who is displaying co ... Read review

Dune doesn't live up to the hype, but still good
Review of Dune - Frank Herbert by Siubijeni

Advantages: Classic, interesting premise
Disadvantages: Highly internalized, little action or even adventure, many inaccuracies/implausibilities

I find Dune to be something of an interesting case. As a classic science fiction novel, it receives a lot of praise and publicity. It's certainly a good enough book, and probably worth a read for sci-fi fans, but it doesn't even come close to living up to ... Read review

The Cobra Trilogy is Well Worth the Read
Review of The Cobra Trilogy - Timothy Zahn by Siubijeni

Advantages: Interesting premise, outstanding characters, believable plot
Disadvantages: Timeskip confusions, some unclear/undeveloped references

The Cobra books have an interesting premise, and revolve around guerilla super-soldiers with implanted servos and weaponry. They are said to be completely undetectable to anything short of a full-power scan, which means they can operate in enemy territory ... Read review

Angelmass Sucked Me In Like a Black Hole
Review of Angelmass - Timothy Zahn by Siubijeni

Advantages: Interesting plot, good (if sparse) action scenes, excellent pacing
Disadvantages: "Pseudo-science," minor inconsistencies, painful political scenes

Angelmass might not be full of action scenes, but I still find that it holds the attention quite effectively. It doesn't really have any really slow points, nor does it ever come across as rushed. The plot does have a few holes caused by some pseudo-sci ... Read review

Not a bad start, so welcome to ciao. Perhaps if you can expand a little on the plot, what you like/dislike about it, and how it compares to other books by this author or in this genre, it would help you gain higher ratings. by kevin121
