Review of Bratislava (Slovakia) by zoe_page

Advantages: Interesting place to visit because it's so different. Ultra Cheap
Disadvantages: Not an awful lot to do. Language barriers

I went to Bratislava while working in Vienna for a summer as it is only a hop, skip and a jump away from the Austrian border. I knew then, and to this day know very little about Slovakia as a whole. I don't tend to read historical guides for fun, so can t ... Read review

I went last year and things sound a lot like they have improved since your visit! We had a friends birthday party at the UFO restaurant and it was pretty nice, they kept giving us free cake too! (no doubt because we bought so many cocktails..) by post-it-note
Thanks for the review. It's interesting how one bad experience can ruin your notion of a whole country. Traveling from Budapest to Prague, we decided to go through Slovakia rather than Austria. On leaving Hungary and entering Slovakia a Slovak policeman inspected our passports and remarked we were "international" as my wife and I are born in diferent parts of the world, live and work in two other, etc. He seemed nice enough... On leaving Slovakia we were given a 'penalty" of $50.00 for not having a certaing driving permit that the first policeman conveniently forgot to mention. The second policeman told us in his best soviet style that we must pay penalty, and retained our passports. There was a line up of some 20 inocent people being hit the same way by the police. How dishonest! My wife was terrified and wanted to get to Germany right away. Not so as we had bookings in Prague. That was the black stain on our otherwise very enjoyable one month trip through some 8 European countries. by Olivarian

Cheapest place in central bratislava
Review of Botel Gracia, Bratislava by francisovi

Advantages: It's a floating hotel! And it's cheap
Disadvantages: You're not going to write home about the decor or service

We stayed here a couple of times, firstly 3 years back and then this year. It worked out at about £40 for the night for a double room, which is hugely expensive for a hotel in Slovakia, except for one within walking distance of the city centre. For that t ... Read review

I think you need to put a little more information into your review. Have a look at other peoples reviews on hotels that are rated "very helpful" for what people want to read. If you do update this review, let me know and I'll rerate it for you :-) by mental_infestation

Bratislava
Review of Bratislava (Slovakia) by jt333

Advantages: It's a bustling, enjoyable city
Disadvantages: People don't know how good it is!

I went to Bratislava while en-route from Austria to Hungary. I was really surprised at how civilised it was, I thought it would be an old ghost town but it was totally the opposite - it had massive motorways going into the city which had hardly any cars o ... Read review

Review of Zvarac Hotel, Bratislava by fizzytom

Disadvantages: Corrupt, Uninspiring life

In 2003 a friend of mine was living in Slovakia teaching - foolishly I agreed to visit in April. I flew to Prague (perhaps I'll write about that later) and I took a coach 12 hours to Banska-Bystrica anyway. Now that Easyjet flies to Bratislava go that ... Read review

I wonder how somebody can be so stupid and judge a country by such a lame and non-competent review as it's this one. There are so many sources on the Web where you can find info... And to the author, are you sure you know the last decade political struggle of Slovakia and the alternative to joining EU...? by marosh

Review of Bratislava (Slovakia) by fizzytom

Advantages: Relatively quiet compared to it's near neighbours Prague, Vienna and Budapest
Disadvantages: Ironically it sufferes in some respects from not being as well-visited as the above

On Saturday May 1st Slovakia will finally join the European Union, one of 10 states to do so. The names of the lesser known of these states are becoming more familiar so I though it would be a good idea to update my review and maybe inspire a few people t ... Read review

I can't believe how airport prices can vary so dramatically - at London City I recall paying over a fiver for a pint of lager (I normally drink halves but the queues were horrendous) - yet I can get double that for the same amount at Cardiff. Sue by sue.51

Having been to Bratislava very recently I was interested to know what others had made of the city. This review is too vague - for example - if you knew nothing about Braislava would you know what the SNP is? (It's a fantastic bridge which spans the Danube, it has a bizarre flying saucer shaped structure which is balanced on one leaning support). This reveiw presumes that the reader is already pretty clued up on the city. by fizzytom
