Review of Aulos 1739Y Brown 209 Treble Recorder by HPark96

Advantages: Good sound quality, suitable for people of all abilities.
Disadvantages: May be a bit big and heavy for young children.

An instrument that is frequently overlooked and classed as being a ‘child’s instrument’ is the recorder, with few people fully appreciating the marvellous instrument that it can be if played properly and well. Also, many people are ignorant, through no fa ... Read review

Rare and Beautiful
Review of Adler 1356 Short Reach Bassoon by HPark96

Advantages: Easy to play once learnt, well worth the price paid
Disadvantages: None

The bassoon is a very rare and beautiful instrument, in both senses of the word. It sounds very beautiful and looks equally so (although I’m afraid I will be biased as I am a grade 4 bassoonist in 3 music groups). Where you may have heard the bassoo ... Read review

Review of Buffet RC Prestige Bb Clarinet by lyndzi76

Advantages: Pure sound, gentle key changes
Disadvantages: Pricey

good review ;) by martinrobinson
I have an E11 that I also learnt on at school. I'd say here youd be better to put more info here rather than pin pointing. Having tried the Prestige a couple of times, my E11 is simpler, although very rare now and was at the time, the one below the Prestige. I found the weight a bit heavy on the Prestige plus the over elaborate keys meant getting to springs/mechanisms for custom adjustment could be trickier. by Nar2

Great Value Beginner Flute, Quality Construction
Review of Beaumont Piper by kevin233

Advantages: Good value, very attractive, great for beginners
Disadvantages: No intermediate flute available yet

In my opinion this is one of the best beginner flutes available and at such a good price. It says on the leaflet that it is made in China, it is far better than any of the other Chinese flutes available. The sound is beautiful and the hand-engraving looks ... Read review

One of the best beginner models on the market
Review of Yamaha 211 Silver-plated by PhilThePenguin

Advantages: Excellent build quality and intonation
Disadvantages: The usual limitations of a beginner instrument

This was my first serious flute, bought second-hand, and lasted me from Grade 1 to almost Grade 8 before I upgraded to £2000 worth of Miyazawa. These days its condition is best described as 'well-loved' but it's certainly still playable. Although this ... Read review

Stunning instruments for the price
Review of Aulos Recorder by PhilThePenguin

Advantages: Great value for money, excellent intonation, low maintenance, consistent quality
Disadvantages: Tone is no better than you'd expect from plastic

I've been playing Aulos recorders for years, and now own Sopranino (207), Descant (205A), Treble (309A) and keyless Tenor (311N), as well as a Fife (C-21). All of the instruments are easy and forgiving to play, have near faultless intonation and sound ... Read review
