It’s getting closer and nearly everyone is talking about it now. What am I talking about? Yes, Christmas. The shops are full of gifts, food and drink ready for the festive period. So today I thought I would share with you a mince pie recipe. Christmas is traditionally the time when everyone likes to tuck into a nice mince pie but they can be eaten at anytime during the year.
To make these mince pies you will need-
225g or 8oz Plain Flour a pinch Salt 50g or 2 oz Lard 50g or 2 oz Margarine 30mlCold water to mix 25g or 1oz Caster Sugar some Milk Mincemeat Using the amounts that I have given you, you will be able to make about 15 mince pies.
Before starting to make the pastry you will need to pre heat your oven to 230C (450F GM 8). Now you are ready to start. 1.Mix flour and salt in mixing bowl, then rub in lard. 2.Using a knife to cut and stir, mix with cold water to form a stiff dough. 3.Put the out dough on to a floured surface and knead lightly. 4.Roll out the pastry very thinly, cut out 15 small rounds and 15 larger rounds, rolling the trimmings as required. 5.Line small cake tins with the larger round pieces of pastry, place a teaspoon full of filling in each. Don't be tempted to put too much in, it expands! 6.Damp the edges of the pastry with milk and cover with the smaller rounds, sealing well. 7.Prick tops with a fork and cook for approx. 15mins.
When you have taken the mince pies out of the oven allow them to cool before you eat them. I hope you enjoy making and eating these mince pies.
Thankyou for reading
P.S Don’t forget to leave one for santa.
