It was 10th October when the first child came round begging - sorry, I mean 'trick or treating'. Following this I locked the door, and kept it locked (except of course when leaving and entering the house) until it was all over. Since our friends all live in other towns (and would phone before coming round), it's not necessary for us to open the door - it's only ever Jehovah's Witnesses, children wanting my money, or ... ...year for hosing down our wheelie bin).
As a child my friends talked of trick or treating. As a child I begged my parents to be allowed to go too, to which they replied "it's begging, of course you're not allowed to". Of course at the time I thought they were just trying to spoil my fun as parents do. Just like when they wouldn't let me get my ears pierced until I was 14 (I pestered them non-stop for 4 years). I got the last laugh from that ending ...

Bread and Butter Pudding
Another one of my childhood favourites. My mother would quite happily leave me to make this dish on my own as a child!
This pudding is so very easy to make and can be eaten hot or cold, with custard or on its own. I enjoy it on its own! It's very filling and fattening but lovely!
I don't actually know the history of this dish but it is excellent for finishing off a loaf of bread that might otherwise be wasted.
*Suitable ... ...recommended for people who avoid dairy or eggs.
Also, if you have a nut allergy you can leave out almonds if you choose to make the luxury version!

Not my usual style of review this, so if I make a complete lash of it, please forgive! If the above title means nothing to you, and as this is a Polish recipe why should it, then what you are about to bake here is a plum crumble pie.
It is many years since I last read a recipe book of any sort! Writing one, having attempted to put this one recipe onto Word is obviously way beyond my capabilities! The recipes are all French and include aperitif, entrees, main courses, desserts and crepes.
You can have the recipes in French or English, they will send you a news letter each week with recipes to try and run competions, they will also answer any cookery questions you might have.

How to make NICE Brownies
As you would know from my over review, I do like to cook a bit (only desserts though).
And things with chocolate are always nice.
I first used this recipe a number of years ago, there must have been some occasion and I found the recipe in one of our recipe books. My friends mum also used to make lovely brownies.
So after having looked at the recipe. I noticed it was really simple. And I have actually memorised it.

100g Chocolate
100g Butter

The Italian Country Table: Home Cooking from Italy's Farmhouse Kitchens is the product of author Lynne Rossetto Kasper's five-plus years living and traveling in Italy. Venturing to small farms and villages far off the tourist trail, Rossetto Kasper learned the centuries-old traditions of Italian cooking and living. She brings it all to life in a single volume that is more than just a cookbook; it's a cultural study of a lifestyle that is slowly becoming obsolete. The Italian Country Table includes hundreds of recipes covering all aspects of Italian cuisine: antipasti (appetizers), pasta, rice and soup first courses, meat, poultry and seafood main courses, vegetables dishes, pizzas, breads and desserts.
The recipes are straightforward, easy to make and often just a joy to read on their own. For the home cook tired of the same old ...
