Red and Glossy

Advantages: Interesting and Varied Articles
Disadvantages: Lots and Lots of Advertising

...I bought June’s edition of Red from W H Smith at a price of £2.80.

Within its 212 pages there were 92 pages of glossy advertising featuring virtually every brand of expensive cosmetics together with up-market cars, jewellery and clothes – some things obviously never change.

However, in the remaining pages there were some very interesting articles and features and whilst I can’t possibly mention them ...
.../> As with most magazines Red starts (on page 9 after a lot of adverts!) with the Editor’s Letter detailing the highlights to come. Two very comprehensive “Contents” pages follow, split into sections for “Brilliant Buys”, “Fashion”, “Features”, “Health & Beauty”, “Food”, “Home & Garden”, “Travel” and “Special Offers”. It all looked good ... more

Red Magazine - well worth the money

Advantages: Interesting articles that women want to read
Disadvantages: None

I have been reading Red magazine since March when it was recommended to me by a friend. She is a bit older than me and already married with children, where as I am not. I thought it would be a bit out of my age range, but I bought it anyway and really enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down. Each month there is a celebrity interview, and this is not like the normal celeb interview you find, but it is conducted in a relaxed environment and the write up ...
...a range of products for Red readers to purchase. Red prides itself on including real women in the magazine and often has articles from readers whose lives have changed someway. There are also minor celebrities and authors talking about their home lives, or what has inspired them - it changes each month. Other sections include 'Red Hot' where films, TV shows and books are reviewed, 'Red Beauty' where the hottest beauty products are reviewed and tips ...

Realistic, new blood

Advantages: new and glossy with realistic features
Disadvantages: too many ads as usual

...benefits! Well i think Red has (along with some other new ones)filled the whole for us normal girls. The price is average..£2.80 and the level of journalism is good. Yes there is still too much advertising, they all seem to do that..but the articles, advice and stories are all a little more believable or usful for me and i do read a lot of magazines...approx. 5 weekly, 2 bi weekly and 5 monthly. It is one of the few mags that i keep incase i want ...

RED (or bed)

Advantages: cost
Disadvantages: too thin, not enough articles etc

I saw red magazine and i thought it looked good , i saw the price and it looked even better (£2.80)so decided to buy it. I was reading through it whilst i was in bed and got through the magazine in literally 40-50 minutes. I normally spend ages reading my magazines as there is a lot to read. I did notice that the magazine was abit on the thin side before i bought it but i thought it's quality not quantity . This had neither. There was alot of ...

Red Magazine

Advantages: Cost
Disadvantages: too many adverts, crap articles, thin magazine

This is the first time I purchased this magazine in a long time as I forgot that it was still available. After purchasing this what a disappointment it was. I did not like the style of this magazine as I prefer to learn more about cosmetics e.g new on the market and ones which are great in magazines as I cannot get enough of them I am afraid. This magazine was very thin in comparison to other magazines and I had finished reading it in an hour which ...

Read Red!

Advantages: Some good articles
Disadvantages: Too much advertising

I'm not a great one for reading magazines but I do enjoy a flick through one now and again as some light-weight reading. I was in the mood for a magazine browse this week and spent some time flicking through various magazines at the newsagents before settling on a copy of Red magazine. Unlike the other magazines on offer, Red didn't come with a free beach bag or pair of oversized flip-flops attached and it seemed to be geared towards an older age range than young teenages. *Price* Red magazine costs £3 for 274 glossy pages. This is about the average price for a womans magazine these days, and at 274 pages this magazine is thicker than most. *Content* The magazine is split into 7 main sections; Shopping List - This section contains articles on fashion, such as '50 holiday must-haves' and 'summer in the city'; and also ...

Psychologies - an interesting but patchy read

Advantages: Some interesting stuff covered and good journalism
Disadvantages: Some weak articles and repetition

I subscribed to this after getting one edition free with Red Magazine, who are Psychologies' stable mate. I subscribed for a year or so, but I no longer subscribe. I still occasionally buy it, but I found an edition every month was a little too much navel-gazing for me, to the point where it could end up being a bit of a downer... and I knew that with a new baby I'd be unlikely to have the time to read as many magazines as I previously have. It has had some really good articles over the months, including pull-out sections on careers and personal development. For me, the biggest disappointment was the monthly column written by Dr Pamela Stephenson (Mrs Billy Connelly). She's apparently a well-respected psycho-sexual counsellor in the US now, but I found her articles facile and irrelevant and not very interesting. It may be that ...

My first Choice?

Advantages: stories, attractve, price
Disadvantages: not too full

I am an avid TV watcher - it's just too depressing if I miss an episode of Eastendes or an X Factor heat! I always like to know in advance what is going to happen, and buy the odd TV magazine if I dont read up online. One of my favourite magazines is TV Choice. TV Choice is easily recognised by the red TV choice logo printed on the front of the magazine. There is always a picture of one or more soapstars - on this particular issue I have next to me (issue 39 2008), you can see Bianca, Tony and Whitney from Eastenders, with the caption 'Will Bianca's proposal reveal the truth about Tony and Whitney?'...that alone makes you want to read more, without even looking at the other smaller images from other plots around the sides! This magazine has a four-page pulout dedicated to thisyears TV Choice awards at the beginning - not something ...
