Advantages: Elegance, balance, very food friendly, classy Disadvantages: None !
While I was perusing the shelves of Sainsburys for a mid-week glugger I chanced across 'Otra Vida' Malbec, a red wine from Argentina for a reasonable £4.99. This had a 'World Wine Trophy' medal from Decanter Wine magazine emblazoned on the bottle which promised a lot of quality for my outlay. Considering that this is one of the highest medal ratings that Decanter dole out in their annual awards I was easily swayed into parting with my fiver.
A word ... ...France has established itself as the darling of the Argentinian wine industry and rightly so. In France it was responsible for very dark and tannic wines that made up a minor proportion of Bordeaux reds and a major proportion of red wines from a region near Toulouse called Cahors (i.e. the famous 'Black wines' of Cahors). Cahors wines due to their very tannic nature generally needed quite a few years ageing to soften. However in Argentina Malbec ...

...I recommend you find it quickly. He also has an amazing white which is an acquired taste, but again very unique. Wines that are suprising are very rare to find, but if you can find the Chateau Musar Red Gaston Hochar I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. ...
Advantages: easy wine, good value for money Disadvantages: you can get drunk very easily
Here it comes the second wine produced by my grandfather. Glad I found it in the Uk! I am confident to assert that this particular brand is pretty much faithful to what an Italian can expect from this type of wine. Dolcetto is a wine known for its black cherry and licorice flavours with a back flavour of prunes and almonds. The name implies sweetness, but the wines is dry, even if not too much. It is an easy wine, naturally mate of pasta and pizzas, ... ...cheese. I've enjoyed it eating hand made pasta with truffle from Italy in front of my fire place. It is the right wine to drink in a familiar environment: the north Italian tradition and culture are included in the price of the bottle. The price can be quite high, but if you look around for the best deal and you can have a nice surprise ;) Enjoy this wine eating your pasta. Open the bottle before, say while you are cooking the pasta and keep it in ...
Advantages: A very good wine from Italy, quite easy to find Disadvantages: If you want to drive you cannot drink too much , if nor on offer it is not so cheap
My roots are in Italy, my father is from the region this wine is from (Piemonte - Piedmont). He born there and spent his life in the "Langhe", the hills near Turin where this wine is from. My grandfather (or better, his god father) producted this and another wine from his vineyard each year. Every year in October we went there from Tuscany (where we lived) for the "Vendemmia", the period when people pick up the grapes from the vineyard and prepare ... ...two years). I would never think to find this wine even in Northern Ireland! In my opinion this is a really good wine. Its quality/price ratio is pretty good even when it is not on offer. It will be incredible when Supermarkets of winemarkets decide to finish their stock and give their last bottles for less than 6 pounds. It become a real great deal!!! Try to buy a 6 or 12 case box, it will be cheaper and I can guarantee you will not waste it... It's ...
Advantages: It will get you drunk Disadvantages: It's not the glass of wine you expect with your meal
I have just recently been invited to Ciao and signed up tonight - unfortunatly pretty much before I do anything I have to write a review so I figured the wine my girlfriend has supplied for the night will be good. Good to write a review on that is not the taste!!! Fair enough - I am not a wine drinker, to be honest I think it's a disgusting version of cider, but the girlfriend likes it so I endure it every now and again. Like I am tonight. As every ... ...it. - Tonights bottle is the Red wine, Austrailian Merlot Landing from 2008. I did ask what the cost what but she got it given as a present. One of them presents you get and pass on in my opinion. If you haven't guessed already I find this wine repulsive - It smells like a cheap vinegar and the taste is much the same. Very bitter and if any of you have had hangover mouth you know what I mean when I say the first sip was like that. I instantly felt ...
