    As part of my Speech and Language Sciences course I have to study Linguistics. I have found this to be quite difficult and I haven't really enjoyed it very much so far, although I am enjoying it a bit more as I'm beginning to understand it better. Unfortunately I failed my first Linguistics exam as I kept procrastinating when it came to linguistics revision. I have vowed that I am going to put enough work in for my next linguistics exam at the end of semester 2 (3 weeks time!) and so far I have.     Disadvantages Disadvantages too pedestrian for an in-depth study of a particular area of linguistics

    As a university student who has studied many modern languages in the past and is now reading English Language and Literature at degree level, I have many a time faced the dreariness and complexities of grammar books - and have developed quite a skill in avoiding them! This book however, was one of the key texts on my reading list, so it looked like there would be no escape for me this time around.
