I have had a lot of problems lately with my hair in terms of colouring it and with using straightners it has caused a lot of breaking. My hair doesn’t look unhealthy in person but from a hairdresser’s point of view, it wasn’t in the best condition and needed repaired. I am not really someone who buys into hairdresser products but for this problem I think I was going to have to pay more if I ever wanted to colour it again. They always offer to do treatments in the salon but these are pricey and I never really know if they work. There are so many proper hairdressing brands but I settled for Redken as they are used in my salon and have a great reputation.
Redken was founded in 1960 by an American actress called Paula Kent. They became big as a company by introducing the concept of protein reconditioning. They soon started to develop patented technologies which they now have up to 60 of worldwide. So on, they built up a brand which today is worldwide known and salon trusted with many salon’s choosing to use Redken as their key line of products.
The packaging of the shampoo is quite nice as all the different sub ranges of Redken are colour packaged so that you know where you are buying them from. The range I have been using is the ‘Extreme’ range which is in the blue bottles. They are in a royal blue plastic bottle which is easy to see the levels of. The front of the bottle just has the Redken logo on it, it comes in a 300ml bottle which is actually not a bad size compared to other brands. The Extreme range is particularly aimed at distressed hair.
On the back it states that Redken Extreme Shampoo gently cleanses and helps restore distressed hair. Its exclusive Interbond Conditioning System gives a unique 3D Repair Complex of proteins, ceramides and liquids to help give strength, cuticle reinforcement and protective resurfacing. It aims to make the hair look healthy again, shiny and manageable. This is a lot of promises which I did hope that my shampoo would aim to do but it was a matter of putting it to the test. Before using the shampoo I had been using the Redken fuel treatments in the Extreme range which are small tubes you break open and leave in your hair for up to 10 minutes to let it take effect and they did leave my hair more manageable.
The shampoo is quite a thick one which is different from most I have used it has a thicker consistency and smells just like a salon with that lightly fruity scent to it which I love as it reminds me of being at the hairdresser. If you lift up the lid and pour about a 2p coin sized amount into your palm and then run it quickly under the water then apply to the hair on your first shampoo it should lather up very quickly. I found this unusual because normally on first shampoo it tends not to lather up so much whereas this one did and it really covered all of my hair as I really intensely rubbed it in and gave my hair a good wash as the fruity aroma engulfed the shower.
I then did a second shampoo which again I massaged right into the hair the second time it seemed to be an even better clean. Now, I am basing my results on using this for about 3-4 weeks as on one wash you can’t really give an honest opinion as no shampoo gives instant results after one wash, well that’s what I personally feel. As said before, my hair was slightly full of split ends and was quite dry looking and had lost it shine somewhat with colouring it. After using this for about a month I have definitely noticed my hair has less split ends and is also a lot smoother to touch, it does not feel as dry at all and really does look healthier with the shine having been restored. My hair also has a lot more movement and body which has really made me a lot happier and just the general fact that the split ends are no longer as obvious makes this product worth the money.
Now, you can buy Redken Extreme Shampoo in all Redken salons but salon prices do tend to vary depending on what they charge. I buy mine from Regis hairdressing stores which are located all over the UK and my shampoo cost me a steep £10.73 but I have nearly used it for a month and still have a very full bottle so in that case it hasn’t been too much of a loss as far as I’m concerned. I have seen online deals for this if you Google around getting it for about £8 odd with free delivery but I just needed mine urgently and wasn’t too bothered.

Advantages: Great for Frizzy Dry Permed or Colour Treated Hair Disadvantages: A little on the pricey side.
REDKEN EXTREME SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER AND TREATMENTS.
I have always suffered with frizzy hair, and had tried countless products to try and combat the dreaded frizz. So in the end I decided to ask my hairdresser what I should use on my hair to try and combat dry, frizzy hair.
She did a strand test, not all salons do this, but they sent a few strands of hair away for analysis to see what would be the best products to use on my hair.
When my results ... ...on my hair was the Redken Extreme product range, which infuses proteins into the hair.
Although the products are a little on the pricey side, I thought I would give it a go, my hair is not too bad, but when it has an off day it really goes frizzy and dry.
As soon as I used the shampoo and conditioner I noticed a difference in my hair, it felt a lot softer and when it had dried it didn't have that dry look, it was a lot more shinier, and my hair ...

Advantages: Makes my hair soft, silky and manageable. Disadvantages: None!
MY REDKEN EXPERIENCE
I have been using Redken products for over 10 years now and have not
bought any other brand since I first discovered it. This all started
when a hairdresser refused to perm my hair because, according to a
strand test, it seriously lacked protein and moisture. At the time, I
was heartbroken - for months I had been saving up and looking forward
to my dream perm. However, this hairdresser told me that if I used the
RedkenExtreme range of shampoo and conditioner for a month, and used
the Extreme protein treatment once a week, my hair should then be in
good enough condition for a perm.
At the time, the price of all this nearly knocked me over. But I took
this advice, returned for my strand test a month later and got my perm!

Advantages: Deep conditioning, strenght, shine. Hair is more manageable, soft and looks more attractive Disadvantages: None
hair dried it was quite stiff and felt dry but then I styled it and to my surprise? it became soft, very manageable, shiny and it felt stronger. It stayed like this even after washing a few times. And the most surprising thing was that after my second wash without using RedkenExtreme Deep Fuel, after applying shampoo from a different brand and several styling products, I could still smell that heavenly honey cream smell on my hair! Fabulous!
What I also like about this product is that you don't need to keep it on your hair for a long time. Just apply after shampooing and rinse out. The instructions don't tell you exactly how long to leave the product on (or at least I cannot recall, the packaging went to the bin a long time ago). I usually leave it on my hair for a few minutes only, but this is enough. Good solution for all the women who ...
