Reductil is a capsule designed to assist in weight loss I have used it on two seperate occasions and have been sucessful both times.
I first heard of reductil through my doctors surgery about five years ago. I wanted to loose weight. I was told that if I could show some improvment on my own in a month then I could be perscribed a medication that would help me too. I was perscribed reductil. It has an active ingredient called sibutramine hydrochloride monohydrate. However reductil is designed to help you lose weight but you will still need will power to achieve it. It works by making you feel satisfied with less food. Therefore reducing the ammount of food you eat. and encouraging your body to survive on less by using the fat stores it has already.
It
is not suitable for everyone and people who suffer high blood pressure or heart problems are not advised to use it. Also anyone with liver, kidney, adrenal gland or thyroid problems should seek advice aswel. People who have had eating disorders are also unlikely to be acceptable to taking reductil and care should be taken if pregnant or breast feeding too. It is suitble for people between the ages of 18 and 65.
One thing with reductil is it can raise blood pressure hence the need for constant doctors/nurses appointments to allow it to be monitored, although I have never had a problem (but everyone is different). When I go I am usually perscribed 2x28 capsules and then booked in to go back in 6 to 7 weeks time, Usually it is 4 weeks for the first two visits. You can take reductil for up to a year at a time then have to take a break, in which time it is possible for your appetite to increase. Also if you go two doctors visits without loosing weight or you gain weight it is likely that you will be taken off it.
I first used reductill at about 19 and lost 2.5 stones in about 6 months, I reached my target weight and decided to stop using it for a while and see how things went. I was doing great. Then about two years ago i damaged my back and stopped doing most activities, but I didn't change my eating habits. Over time the weight crept back up. I tried every diet possible, I cut out carbs, I cut out fat, I tried slim fast. I couldn't get anywhere. i went to see my nurse and talked it all through and she suggested I went back onto Reductil for a while see how I got on, In the first three weeks I lost 8lbs I was amazed, I started to go out walking and trying to do bits of exercise here and there to make a difference. I was going away to Disneyland and it's not the easiest place to find health food I was worried I wouldn't lose any there, but I lost 4lbs that month. I guess that was partly the walking. I was worried about christmas so imagine my delight when in the weeks just before Christmas to just after New Year I lost half a stone!! And yes I did have Christmas turkey, stuffing, xmas pud, yule log and allt he normal things.
I'm not saying that it is suitable for everyone and i'm not saying it is a quick easy fix. some months I only loose 2lbs but so far i haven't gained any. It is a perscription medication and although have seen it for sale on internet, my advice would be if you are serious about losing weight then ask your doctor or nurse about it. It can't hurt to ask their advice. I did and am glad of it. i am still losing weight, although not as fast as was when originally started it. But most of all I feel better about myself. And people comment on that ( as well as my disapearing hips lol)
Added 13/2/2007 23.11 I understand that not everyone approves of weight loss drugs and that the best way to loose weight is to do it naturally. I did try that but due to injury I couldn't keep up with physical exercise and so fond it harder to keep up any fitness. the first time was following a five year knee complaint and operation, the second and most resent is after muscles collapsed in my back and again I had to stop exercise. Hopefully I have recently started to do gentle exercise and so will be able to carry that on and stop the medication. I would rather take a medication advised by doctors than loose weight with an eatting disorder or lacatives and I feel in the day and age we live in that there is a lot of pro anna sites around but not alot of other advice for weight loss so this is my way of sharing my experience with others, I am sorry if I offend anyone that is not my intention at all. I would love to lose weight but I would feel I had cheated if I used a tablet to help me do it. Though I amnot doing too well on trying to do it by myself I have to admit! x

Great review and some interesting points covered. It is only available to people who meet certain criteria (ie previous serious attempts to lose weight) and patients will be assessed to ensure they're maintaining weight loss to be able to stay on it. But with so much negative stuff written about drugs it's great to see some positive mesages
