My Grammar and I
Review of My Grammar and I (Or Should That Be 'Me'?): Old-School Ways to Sharpen Your English - J. A. Wines & Caroline Taggart by jpearson772

Advantages: Useful book
Disadvantages: None

...I was interested in improving my grammar and constantly look back on it for guidance. Through time we have lost our grasp on our own language because of an increase in the use of technology (Word processors and mobile phones), that have predictive text or spelling checks. This has made people lazy and illiterate. This book would be the perfect gift for those that are addicted to keypads. PRICE GUIDE Waterstones has it as £4.99 online or £9.99 in ... Read review

Rich Dad, Poor Advice
Review of Rich Dad Poor Dad - Robert T. Kiyosaki by Collingwood21

Advantages: Inspirational; A few pieces of good common sense advice
Disadvantages: Little concrete advice; Pushes his own products too much; Promotes risky strategies

...Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Children That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not" is a best-selling book by self-made multi-millionaire Robert Kiyosaki. Actually, it would be more accurate to say it is his first best-selling book: "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" has spawned an empire of spin-offs since it first appeared in 1997 (see www.richdad.com). Despite its apparent prominence in the field of personal finance books, however, it is one that I have ...
...attitudes of those who become rich compared the majority of people who do not. The book takes the form of an account of Kiyosaki's early life growing up in Hawaii in the 1950s, although the degree to which this tale has been fictionalised is hotly disputed; the author has never revealed who "rich dad" was, and it is likely that much of this book is allegory rather than a direct account of his childhood. The "poor dad" of the title is the author's ... Read review

English As She Is Writ
Review of Learning Teaching - Jim Scrivener by zoe_page

Advantages: A thorough introduction
Disadvantages: Light on grammar

...you use it, I guess learning teaching from a book is possible after all. You can read more of Scrivener's tips here: http://www.onestopenglish.com/section.asp?s ectionType=listsummary&catid=59448 The book touches on grammar but is not a thorough introduction to the subject, so I would recommened pairing this book with Murphy's "English Grammar In Use" which should be all you need to approach classes of most levels. ------------------------------------------------ ...

In danger of wasting time!
Review of The Dangerous Book for Boys - Conn Iggulden by anwar

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...my husband a copy of the dangerous book for boys. I think it was meant as a bit of a joke present really and after a cursory flick through the book was put aside. However a few weeks ago I wanted something to read whilst my son had his weekly tennis lesson. As I rushed out of the house I noticed the book on the hall table and grabbed it. The Dangerous book for boys is fairly heavy book with a red hardback cover and rather expensive looking gold ...
...There is a forward from the authors in which they argue that even in this age of computer games there is still a place for knots, tree houses and stories of courage. The index at the front of the book lists everything that is covered. I decided to just flick through the book to see what caught my eye. I first read an article about the seven wonders of the ancient world. The article was well laid out and interesting. There were several colour pictures ... Read review
