Icke's best book
Review of The biggest secret - David Icke by pwr199

Advantages: very original
Disadvantages: mindboggling

...presented snooker and football on the BBC when there were only four channels. He then appeared on Wogan, who ridiculed him for what he had to say on the spiritual journey he had embarked upon. It was Wogan's job to bully and ridicule most people who don't fit into the BBC's narrow view of the world. Firstly, in this book from the early 1990s, Icke more or less predicts the World Trade Centre attack, and the reasons for it. I don't remember Wogan ...
...the ways in which people behave like sheep in a flock, yet under the illusion of freedom of choice and action. Icke places a sinister background behind the power holders in the western world and beyond, and highlights the fact that only one or two bloodlines have provided the entire power base of the British Royal family, American presidential line since both began. The extra terrestrial angle is research he has gathered from a range of media and ... Read review

If you only buy one reference book, buy this.
Review of Oxford Dictionary of English (Dictionary) by fmml

Advantages: Comprehensive and easy to use
Disadvantages: Large, heavy and easily damaged.

This dictionary is the definitive guide to modern (and some not-so-modern) English. Not only does it contain every word you have ever come across (and lots you are never likely to), it also has lots of place names, famous people and historical events, meaning that, unless you want a great deal of detail on very specific things, this volume is practically an encyclopedia and dictionary in one. The Contents The typeface is very clear, and shaded ...
...the letters begin and end, making it easier to find what you're looking for. It doesn't have indented thumb tabs, but they annoy me anyway, so unless you are used to this, then it's no problem. The pronunciation of difficult words is given, and the phonetic alphabet is at the bottom of each page for easy reference. It's good that pronunciations are not given for absolutely every word, because this saves the page being cluttered up with symbols, but ... Read review

A complete guide to triathlon training
Review of Triathletes Training Bible - Joe Friel by beanie8844

Advantages: very detailed and individual specific information
Disadvantages: does include many technical terms

...studied sports science) was the Triathletes Training Bible by J.Friel. This book is extremely detailed and has chapters on all aspects of training - it does however use many terms that may not be understood by non-triathletes and so a little time for wider research into the area maybe required when reading the book, although this time will not be wasted I can assure you. The book is quite long and I don't suggest you read it from cover to cover, ...
...the specialized training needs of triathletes including: - Nutrition (pre, during and post race) - Recovery (tips and advice once you're training/race is complete) - weight training (info to increase muscular strength, power, endurance) - mental aspects (shows the importance of mental preparation during training/race) Above I have merely summarised some of the key parts of the book, but there is so much within the book it would be impossible ... fun kids book about the weather
Review of DK Eyewitness Guides: Weather - Brian Cosgrove by beanie8844

Advantages: very interesting and educational
Disadvantages: none

We all listen to the weather forecasts in the morning before work and of an evening before we go to bed, and often moan when the meteorologists get it wrong. However weather is a very complex thing and unless you paid great attention during geography lessons at school or work for the met office then like myself there's probably an waful lot of things about the weather which we don't know. The book called simply 'WEATHER' from the eyewitness guides ...
...children it contains some very interesting information, and answers some key questions, ie how hot is a lightning bolt?, why are clouds different shapes?, what goes on inside a thundercloud? etc. It really is a great reference book and I guarantee that if you read it for a few minutes you'll learn something that you didn't know before. Key chapters: - the science of weather - forecasting - the birth of a cloud - clouds of all kinds - fronts ... Read review

The ultimate university survival guide!
Review of The Virgin University Survival Guide - Karla Fitzhugh by Luvlylana

Advantages: Cheap and jam-packed with useful hints and tips
Disadvantages: They don't have books that specifically focus on the later years at uni

...Now these questions aren't always the kind of thing you want to ask your friends, for example - what should I do if I get homesick? Should I indulge in one night stands? What should I do if presented with drugs? For anyone who wants to know the answers to those kind of questions, but doesn't want to ask their friends, I would highly recommend this book. I ordered it online via play.com for £5.99 (RRP is £7.99), and I believe it is currently available ...
...I'm sure you'd agree!
