Review of Worship As Theology - Don E. Saliers by frkurt

Advantages: Great insights
Disadvantages: For a narrow audience

...a full partner in the worship process. People recite creeds and follow models without great (or sometimes without any) reflection upon what they're saying or doing. To what extent does the above statement serve to undermine theological thinking and reflection as a worshipful practice? I am building more of a case around this than perhaps the statement deserves. Certainly Saliers is not saying that theological reflection is unimportant (in fact, just ...
...theology as more important than worship and liturgy. While theological thinking and reflection can be a worshipful practice, perhaps what is at the heart of this statement is the argument that such cannot be the only practice. How many theologians (and indeed seminary students) stop going to church? I must confess during my first year of seminary I too was without a church, and while I was looking, I was tempted by the notion that my academic pursuits ... Read review

Disadvantages: It may bore you if you aren't focused

...psychologycal ideas and philosophic content. The ancestor of the bestseller - "The Secret" You attract what you think and more emotions you put into, quicker the result will appear. A great weapon for the pesimistic ones and those who've lost their beliefs. This book rearrange you on the right path. Darwin's Angel
Review of Darwin's Angel: An Angelic Riposte to "The God Delusion" - John Cornwell by Petejel05

Advantages: Extremely well written, Counteracts Dawkins arguments concisely, Small book
Disadvantages: Some chapters extremely short, though this is not neceserilly a weakness.

The body of the text in this book talks about extremely complicated philosphical and theological concerning both the existence and nature of God that Richard Dawkins so casually and powerfully attempts to devalue. It is written to form the counter argument to Richard Dawkin's controversial book "The God Delusion" and does just that. Where some authors would be tempted to pile in every argument under the sun to do this, Cornwell is extremely particular, ...
...It is not written as an angry God attempting to shout down a non-believer either. In fact, the peace that is present in the volume of this book is extremely humbling and reminds Dawkins what the Christian doctrine of God and Angels are. Peace, Love, Goodwill. Not Anger, Hate, Suffering. ... Read review

The Bible Code
Review of The Bible Code - Michael Drosnin by davidabraham

Advantages: An iin-depth travel through the endless combinations coded in the Bible
Disadvantages: Take Your time to read it, it requires the reader's full attention

The truth remains unknown. while Life remains a mystery. The present is all we will know. I have reached this same conclusion after having read Bible Code. The point of the book is that, hidden within the words of the Hebrew Bible, there is a secret code that, when deciphered, gives us an interesting view of events we see now, mentioning them almost 3000 years before they actually happen. The subject captivated me when I first read the book. The ...
...interested when it comes to the unknown especially if it is something that's beyond our capability. The author seems to use this as the focus on his book. He claimed to tell the truth by simply stating that he is an investigator with no bias opinions. I don't know if this is the truth but it does sound too perfect. I've been taught however, to always give people the benefit of the doubt. However, when it comes to science and religion, I can see that ... Read review

The end of faith...
Review of The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason - Sam Harris by yelenefeneley

Advantages: brillaint read, fantastic thesis, compeling, thought provoking and unconventional
Disadvantages: none!

A truly insightful look into the minds of the people in modern day society, reflecting upon the idea's of belief, our compulsion to believe in something, and what it may drive us to do. It takes a look into the mind of a terrorist and asses what makes him or her do what they do and why they actually follow through with some of their actions. It fiercely tears into the heart of organised religion and liberal precepts. This is a truly astonishing ...
...good thesis, digs into the philosophical and physcological side of modern day society and religion, fantastic. The blurb and some reviews by well known people and organisations: 'This important and timely book delivers a startling analysis of the clash of faith and reason in todays world. With penetrating clarity and accessibility Sam Harris asserts that in the shadow of weapons of mass destruction, we can no longer tolerate views that pit one true ... Read review
