Review of Practising the Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle by
articlewiki
Advantages: its ok but repeats what the origanal book says
Disadvantages: As above
This book is pretty much a duplication of Tolles first book ''The Power of now'' and while I'm a huge fan of Eckhart's books I found this publication dissapointing because of the duplication issue.
The premise of the book is annotating the important pieces of information from the original and personally I found the whole experience pointless.
I really wouldn't bother purchasing this book and if you're a Tolle fan try ''A New Earth'' which is awesome ... ...review:

If however you are new to this genre or are interested in readingTolle's books you should try his first book ''The Power of Now'' which as with ''A New Earth'' can be a thoroughly liberating experience.

A-maze-ing prayers
Review of Praying the Labyrinth: A Journal for Spiritual Exploration - Jill Kimberly Hartwell Geoffrion by
frkurt
Advantages: Spiritual, good for use while doing the labyrinth
Disadvantages: -
...expression in the actions at praying the labyrinth. Return, O my soul, to your rest for God has dealt bountifully with you. - Psalm 116:7 This is a very interesting format for a book, one that opens the reader to a unique spiritual event. Even to the end of the experience, the heading of each page reads Opening -- there is no conclusion, no finality, even at the centre of the circle path. This is a book that leads one to prayer, leads one to creativity, ... ...oneself and to God. It all leads one to an openness to being part of the world, part of the community, and being in touch with one's own spirit. Various churches around the world have labyrinths - one need not make a pilgrimage to Chartres. Indeed, as Geoffrion states, while the labyrinth is designed to be a means by which one incorporates prayer bodily in action as well as words, one need not actually 'walk' the labyrinth physically.

A pearl of great price
Review of Parables for Preachers: The Gospel of Matthew: Year A - Barbara Reid by
frkurt
Advantages: Useful for preachers and others who read the Bible
Disadvantages: -
...find new meanings in familiar parables that show up again and again? This is a particularly important question for preachers, and Reid addresses it directly. The term 'parable' can refer to a range of types of speech - it goes beyond the simple moral stories similar to Aesop's fables. As Reid says of the gospel of Matthew, `in one sense, the whole gospel can be regarded as a parable.' Jesus, of course, was not the first to preach or teach in parables. ... ...illustrates several ways in which parables serve to carry a message. They provide a way for Jesus to explain his experience of God and holiness without boxing it into academic or dogmatic statements. It helps connect the encounter with the holy with the common people and their daily lives. `In his parables, Jesus always began with the familiar. The images and situations he painted in his stories were from the fabric of daily life of his audience.' ...
