An Inspirationally Lucky Man!
Review of Lucky Man - Michael J. Fox by  kerrith

Advantages: Honest, personal insight
Disadvantages: a taxing read, a review cannot do it justice

...lucky about being diagnosed with 'Young On-set Parkinsons Disease' when you are in your prime, in both life and career? This book does a wonderful job of explaining just how Michael J fox is not only 'lucky', but also 'grateful'. I grew up with Michael J. Fox. Okay, he didn't live in my house or my street, but he did live inside my TV. He was one of the most famous people of my generation. He is probably the first famous person I ever noticed, and certainly my first crush! Fair to say, I feel as though I knew him. I was always a huge fan, from Family Ties, to Teen Wolf, Back to the Future, The Frighteners, right through to Spin City, the last on-screen work he did. Basically, Michael J Fox was an icon of the 80's and 90's. Michael Andrew Fox was born in Edmonton, Canada in June of 1961. He grew up in Permanent Married Quarters... Read review

80s revival
Review of The Line of Beauty - Alan Hollinghurst by  Shoka

Advantages: Easy to read, beautifully written, good chapter length
Disadvantages: None

...Oxford university becomes the lodger of his old university friend Toby's family. Nothing unusual in this except that Tobys father is Gerald Fedden cabinet minister of Margaret Thatchers Tory party. The story that follows tells the journey of discover Nick goes on, his first gay lover, his discovery of the seemingly glamourous world of the Feddens, through meeting the love of his life, and the circumstances that follow. If you like your reading material to challenge you then this is for you, it makes you think, educates on certain topics and if you are old enough to remember the 80s properly (Im not really) then this is probably going to be a stroll down memory lane with lots of familliar characters, and some stereotypes - yuppies, house brick like mobiles clamped to ear etc. Key Characters ********************* Nick Guest - Naieve... Lucky Michael...Lucky Readers...
Review of Lucky Man - Michael J. Fox by  Kirsty1

Advantages: A thought-provoking and charming read...
Disadvantages: It will upset people to read of the suffering...

...What do you think of when you hear the name Michael J. Fox? Do you remember the charismatic young and rather diminutive lead in Back to The Future? Or the smart and funny comedian of Spin City? Or rather do you picture the Michael J. Fox of September 1998 as he announced to the worlds media that he had the degenerative neurological disease Parkinsons… Me? Well I will confess to having been horrified to witness Fox stutter and twitch his way through that announcement and felt the stinging irony of the ever-youthful looking actor being the victim of the relatively rare “young on-set” version of this debilitating disease. I do remember thinking that we wouldn’t be seeing him in the public eye again... ****************************************************** Yet here we are, with his new paperback autobiography, “Lucky Man...
