I think I must be going through one of those times in your life when you just want to be slightly different to what you already are. Don’t get me wrong I’m not unhappy being me, in fact I think it is because I am so comfortable that I feel able to gently criticize myself. Perhaps what I am doing is giving myself a mental kick up the backside, and setting out on a journey of self-improvement. Some may say that at 30 I am having an almost mid life crisis!
It was in this frame of mind that I set out to see just how different I could be whilst still being me. I found that I really only needed a few cosmetic tweaks to make a difference. I am now feeling ‘new and improved’.
The first port of call on my journey was M&S – new knickers, and a pair of sexy red sandals – guaranteed to make you feel ‘brand new’…and yes they helped.
My second was the Opticians, to get myself back into contact lenses.
By far the most significant of my transformations however was in an area that I have never really bothered with in all of my 30 year on the planet. A region that until recently was an overgrown jungle, a straggling mess, which every time I looked at it I cringed. No not my garden…but my lady garden!
Those of you with a delicate constitution may prefer not to read on!
Ladies (and gentlemen), I’m sure that I am not alone in having never tended to this little patch before. Previously preferring to have the natural look, or to be truthful, I have just never bothered to attend to ‘it’. Well times they are a-changing, and not being brave enough yet for waxing,, and not possessing any scissors sharp enough, I went on a mission to find a solution to the lost world!
For this reason and solely this reason I found myself in our local boots out of town store at 8.30am one Saturday morning! Sad I know, but this was my final step on the road to feeling refreshed.
Having seen recent adverts for the kind of instrument I required I hot footed it down to the back of the store, and stood for a while transfixed by the display of shaving and depilating instruments. There were nose hair trimmers, facial hair trimmers, beard trimmers, lady shavers, and those tortuous things that rip the hairs out of your legs (which I swore never again to use after an unpleasant experience with one when I was about 18!). I must have been looking perplexed, because I was approached by a young lady assistant (have you noticed how the staff in shops seem to be getting younger these days), who asked if she could help me find what I was looking for.
My reply was a reflex response, and one that produced much mirth and even more sniggering within the vicinity of the electrical department that day.

And so from that day on I now refer to my Remington BKT1000, Bikini Trim & Shape as above! Frankly I find it easier and much more descriptive anyway…
There were 3 options for me to choose from in store, although I imagine that if you were to search the Internet you could find others too.
I could have had the Philips trimmer at Ģ19.99, which is rechargeable, but looked a little too like one of the nose hair trimmers. So I passed.
I could have chosen the Remington BKT2000 at Ģ19.99, which is identical to the BKT1000, but for the fact that it is suitable for wet and dry use, and is rechargeable. The idea of doing this sort of work in the wet didn’t appeal. So I passed.
The Remington BKT1000 won my affections instead, which at Ģ14.99 seemed to be a good deal for someone who wasn’t sure if this was ‘for her’. So I left the store with my purchase and drove home to inspect (and use) my new toy.
After making sure that I was alone – well it’s really not the sort of thing you want to do with an audience is it? – I set about familiarising myself with the trimmer. It was much smaller than I had imagined it to be, but it was a nice girly sort of pinky-purple. A rake through every draw in the house turned up the 2 AAA batteries that are required to set it in motion. I inserted them, flicked the on-off switch and hey presto a sweet little buzzing shaver thingy.
Did I really want to do this, and place this so close to somewhere so vulnerable?
The trimmer has 5 cutting settings, easily adjustable by turning a little dial. You can also take off the blade guard for closer trimming. I started on the longest setting 5, and by the time I had got the 3 I think I had perfected the procedure. Setting 4 & 5 will not be getting much use by me. Now that I have done the deed I find I prefer the more ‘cropped look’.
Without the guard on the shave is much closer but leaves unattractive stubble, which I felt should be attended to by the old-fashioned razor method. However this does leave you prone to getting ingrown hairs, so beware.
Otherwise there is only one other pitfall that I can come up with…Where to undertake the task, so that the debris is easy to dispose of? You’ll work out the best way for you I’m sure.
The whole process is not painful, and quite pleasurable really, the mild buzz and vibrate can leave you feeling tingly, and with a little grin on your face too!
I am still not able to perform this task in front of my husband. Its just one of those things that you should do in private, although the buzzing from the bathroom is a dead give away (unless you have anything else that you use in private which buzzes).
I am very pleased to have completed my transformation, and would thoroughly recommend that if you have thought of trying this product, then go out and get one. After all if you don’t like the results, then your mane will, given time grow again.
I don’t think that I am creative enough to move onto advanced hedge trimming yet, but I suppose for those artistic Ciaoers out there the potential is massive. Have fun!

Advantages: Great trimmer, cheap, rechargeable, cordless, safe and comfortable to use, good range of trimming lengths Disadvantages: Shaver is useless, cleaning is a bit fiddly, instructions and packaging are poor
After several months of struggling to trim my pubes with rather blunt scissors, I decided to spend a whole Ģ10 on this trimmer from Amazon. It was definitely worth it, although I have a few bones to pick with the product.
The trimmer is girly light pink, nicely shaped, with two removable heads: a trimming head and a shaving head. Both are easy to put on and take off. The shaving head comes with a little cover, and the trimming head has a comb so ... ...well as the mains charger and instruction leaflet, and the whole thing comes in a pink bag. To start with the silly stuff, the bag is awful. Hideous pink and nasty shiny fabric, it's the tackiest thing I've seen in a long time, even beating my partner's poker trophy. It's much too big for the product, as it comes with the cardboard packaging actually inside the bag. This is a minor issue, but products like this really do need to be kept in something, ...

What a great idea, so simple yet effective. No more creams or razors, yay!
This costs around Ģ20 (available from Boots or Argos). It is battery powered, only taking 2 AAA's, so you might have to replace them quite a bit. I cant comment on how long mine lasted because I have only just bought this product. However, I actually prefer batteries to plugs, rechargable bits, leads, etc which in my opinion just get in the way.
The product is just like ... ...your head but it is smaller and easier to use. Also looks fairly feminine because it is curvy and pink!
The product has a trimmer comb attached with 5 settings. Personally I think anything above number 3 is really long and you might as well be going for the natural look! but I suppose its good for anyone who doesn't want it too short. You can also remove the comb for what is supposed to be 'close to skin shaving'. This isnt as close as you might ...

Advantages: No more pain!!!! Disadvantages: The noise!
...rash afterwoods I'd say the Remington trim and shape is a godsend! The only disadvantage to it in my opinion is that it makes quite a bit of noise so people know what you're up to in the bathroom! However, I would indeed highly recommend it- it's hassle free, cheap, efficient - what more could a girl want?! ...

Advantages: Very quick results Disadvantages: None
I stumbed upon this product whilst on line one day and thought, I must get one of those to give it a try. At just Ģ20.00 its a bargain. No more creams that are awkward to apply plus you dont know if you are going to burn your most delicate bits and no more screams at the beauticians with the old 'wax' torture.
Very easy to use and battery operated. Choice of closeness of shave and it can even be used without the guard - this gives you a very close ... ...on the angle of use etc but once you have cracked it, your cooking with gas. Its soooo quick and such a small item that you could easily pack it into your handbag.
You can go from cave woman to silky smooth in no time.
Just remember to use a towel or stand in the bath as the hairs can get everywhere.
Dont know why this wasnt invented years ago.
Get one - you wont be disappointed. ...

Advantages: No irritation, hair grows back extremely and surprisingly slowly Disadvantages: Can be a bit messy
My friend Kerry suggested that I buy one of these and i was so fed up of the whole 'Do i wax or shave?' dilema that i thought I'd give it a go.
Packaging
Fantastic packaging, comes with everything you need apart from batteries which is a little annoying but this only cost me Ģ14.99 so overall not too bad.
Ease of use
This is very easy to use. You can take the blade off for a close shave or choose your length and turn a handy dial to change the ... ...it does. Waxing and shaving both cause iritation and this product does not. As the hair has not been removed it does not try and grow back with a vengance . It has only been trimmed so grows at the normal pace.
I would suggest that anyone who needs something doing to their bikini line should try this product. It is good value, easy to use and it works fantastically. ...
