Advantages: Cheap, they do work if used on highest heat setting. Disadvantages: Doesn't stay straight for long unless used at a very high temperature.
After my old straightners broke, I went out looking for some new ones.
I didn't want anything fancy I just wanted some that would keep my hair straight.
I came across these at boots, they were reduced from £49.99 to £24.99.
The fancy packaging on them says on the front of the box 'join the shine revolution.'
They also claim to 'create no frizz, sleek hair wih up to 70% more protection from hair splitting and damage. Using the words first straightner with high-heat Teflon Woven Fabric ceramic plate technology.
The micro-fibre weave, wraps and cushions the hair, striaghtening with kindness and enviable shine.'
This really appealed to me as even after using protective heat spray I still use to get some split ends with my old straightners.

These curling tongs are great when wanting to create a fairly tight curl. They have an indicator light that shows when they have heated up. They also have different temperature settings which allows you to create curls depending on your hair type. The curls stay in quite well, I have straight hair and it is still curly by the end of the day. The swivel cord enables hair to be curled without getting tangled up in wires. These tongs also come with a heat matt which prevents surfaces from getting burnt. This mat also rolls up to act as a storage case which is very usefull for traveling. There is a long cable which is great. These are great value and would compete with any higher priced curling tongs. However the high temperature can cause split ends if used too much. ...
