I'm lucky to have thick, long, dark blonde hair and should be very happy with it, I know, but the one annoying problem with my hair is its tendency to become wavy in particular areas in a non-uniform way.
I can wake up in the morning with kinky hair on one side and dead straight hair on the other. Other than rewashing and blow drying up until now there has been little else I could do.
About a year ago I purchased a Remmington teflon coated steam straightener for my hair which proved, pretty much, totally ineffective.
I tried straightening serums and various other products with the straighteners but concluded in the end that I'd wasted my money and alot of valuable spare time. These straighteners finally broke last week and have now found their way into the dustbin!
Feeling a little exasperated, I mentioned the problem to my hairdresser, a friendly young girl who loves a natter and a bit of gossip. I told her that my sister's wedding was coming up and I'd really like to take control of my hair so that it looked half decent for the photographs.
She washed and trimmed my hair as normal and then added some l'Oreal Protective Hair Serum. Only a small amount, about the size of a grape. This was stroked in from the roots downwards and the hair then blow dryed until it was completely dry.
Taking out a slim pair of black ceramic straighteners she then gently ran the blades down the top layer of hair from about half way down, where the kinks start, to the ends. She hardly pressed the straighteners on to the hair at all and the whole process was extremely quick and totally painless.
My hair felt extremely soft afterwards, appeared very straight and professionally styled. Its condition had in no way been damaged, or dryed. My hair stayed straight and styled for three days until its next wash. A great improvement on the usual daily wash and blast with the hair dryer.
The straighteners used by my hair dresser were called Remmington Power Ceramic Straighteners Model No. CS1001. Being extremely impressed I decided to purchase a set for myself.
+++++++++++++++++++ PURCHASE AND PRICE +++++++++++++++++++
I set off to Boots expecting to faint at the sight of the price tag but was pleasantly surprised to discover that they only cost £24.99. As an added bonus, I collected double Boots reward points on this, so a real bargin.
++++++++++ OPERATION ++++++++++
The straighteners are about 10 inches long and attached to the inside of the blades are a pair of lemon coloured ceramic coated plates around 5 inches long and 2 inches wide.
The straighteners have only one heat level, which - be warned - is very hot, so take care not to burn your fingers and don't touch your hair in the couple of seconds after straightening each section. Heating to ready temperature takes 60 seconds - very quick.
On top of the straighteners is an on/off switch and a red power indicator switch. The cable is about 3 metres long which is very handy if your plug socket is not right next to the mirror.
++++++++++++ WHY CERAMIC ++++++++++++
Ceramic plates are the top choice for straighteners as they provide an even heat distribution and are less likely to damage your hair. The plates glide very easily through my long thick hair, which I straighten in sections about 3 inches wide. I usually concentrate on the top layers to avoid any possibility of burning the skin on my neck.
As the hairdresser demonstrated, it is extremely important to use a protective specialist product on your hair after each wash. For extra care there are also protective sprays you can apply before each straightening. If you don't use these, your hair may become brittle and snap - not very attractive.
++++++ SAFETY ++++++
A the Remmington Ceramic Straighteners heat up so quickly and to such a high temperature, I always take care not to leave them anywhere where they are in danger of catching something alight or where the children can get hold of them. It is best to make sure that you attend them at all times when switched on.
Even after switching off don't assume that they are safe as they take a few minutes to cool. Place them on a flat , smooth heat resistant surface. Use clips to section hair if necessary and always start from the back straightening lower layers first. Never go over a section of hair more than twice.
++++++++++++ MAINTENANCE ++++++++++++
Maintenance of the straighteners is very simple, they can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Avoid scratching the plates, as this can effect performance.
+++++++++ WARRANTY +++++++++
The product comes with a 2 Year Service and Warranty from Remmington. To claim this you need to register the product by either completing and posting the form provided or registering on their website www.remington.co.uk.

To sum up, I find the Remmington Power Ceramic Straightener to be a product offering exceptional performance and exceptional value for money when compared to others on offer. I really cannot see a reason why anyone would need to pay more for a pair of ceramic hair straighteners.

Advantages: GHD quality for half the price Disadvantages: I keep pressing the "OFF" button by mistake!
...night, a friend had brought Remington 2x ceramic straightners round-I used these and could not tell the difference between GHD'S. Ok, these cost around £49.99 and you can get them from anywhere-Argos, Index etc. They heat up in around 10 seconds-it's only a few seconds more than GHD's anyway! They have ceramic plated irons, and are fairly slim, they have an on/off sliding button, and a red light appears when they are switched on-the only downfal ... ...your thumb may turn them off again, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem!
When starightening hair, I have fairly thick hair and I find I need to run down my hair 1-2 times for it to be poker staright (this is when I have sectioned it), these heat upto an incredible heat (can't find the booklet but will find out for you!) so you do need to be careful when starting at the roots.
The irons have heat resistant parts in which you can safely hold ...

Advantages: Heat up very fast. Disadvantages: People assume they're not as good as GHD.
...in this review, are the Remington S1002 slim ceramic Teflon coated model. I originally bought these because they were only £35, assuming that they would just about do the job, as I really could not justify paying £100 for GHD straighteners. I thought that GHDs were just a craze, I must admit, it is a craze that has lasted, but I feel they have an unjustified high status.

Obviously, due to Health & Safety Regulations, I am not recommending this to anyone, but, I have been straightening my damp hair with my normal Remington 2X Protection straighteners for about 3 months now. ...

Advantages: They actually work! Disadvantages: I burn my fingers on the hot irons - but I'm very clumsy anyway
...eyes keep falling upon the Remington Ceramic Straighteners. They look really slender, easy to handle, on/off switch on the side, plug comes with, they are plain black thongs with pastel yellow ceramic irons. To top it off, Remington is a good, well known brand. The price was, well I thought the price was really reasonable - £24.99! Remington Power Ceramic Straighteners - I have had a few straighteners in my time so I know what I am talking about when I say these are by far the best. I have tried GHDs and they are good, but if you read this review you will find out why I chose these over them!

Advantages: cheap, 60 second heat up, super smooth straight hair, lasts until you next wash your hair Disadvantages: after regular use the ceramic comes off as they are not solid only coated
I have straightened my hair since i was quite young first using those metal plate straighteners that you have to clamp down so hard and then try and overlap the line you left. they took about 15 mins to heat up and forever to use and the results were no different if you wanted to only get rid of frizz and kinks. so imagine when i found out about ghds i was ecstatic only to find out they cost about £65 at the cheapest. This was obviously a no-no. Then a good friend of mine introduced me to the remington power ceramicstraighteners and they had just as good results. Eventually we started a bit of a cult in our year at school because they were such good value. I only straighten my hair once a week to minimise damamge but my one friend was straightening hers every day and also using them at school to straighten other peoples when we noticed ...

Remington CS3000/1001 Ceramic Hair Straightener
I was so dying to have a straightener so when my gran finally bought me one, I was over the moon because I thought no more wavy hair but 7 months later am I still overmoon? Let's find out.
You can buy this straightener (CS3000) in Argos, Comet, Tesco, Boots etc. They will cost you from £19.40-2.99. Cheapest is at Tesco for £20.48 (free delivery). Argos does it cheaper for £19.40 but you do have a delivery fee with that so it makes it more expensive than Tesco and most expensive I've found it at Freemans at £29.99.
It's black with white/yellow Ceramic plates. The ceramic coating enables it to glide easier through your hair. It has a cable of 3 metres so you can actually use them in a mirror far away from a plug. They are very light weight which makes them easy to handle ...

Ta-daaaaaaaaaaaaa (That's just because I think it's so wicked!)
Now I am a natural red head and wouldn't change my colour for the world, but I would change the thickness of it! No matter what I do to it, it's always thick and wavy, regardless of frizz-free shampoos, hair serums and other hair products! There is not a single day that goes by when my hair is straight. It usually has a huge kink in it or it sticks out and on some days, I can look like Sonic the bleeding hedgehog! My hair can go quite curly, when I'm in the mood and can be bothered to put the effort in ...
