I'm lucky to have thick, long, dark blonde hair and should be very happy with it, I know, but the one annoying problem with my hair is its tendency to become wavy in particular areas in a non-uniform way.
I can wake up in the morning with kinky hair on one side and dead straight hair on the other. Other than rewashing and blow drying up until now there has been little else I could do.
About a year ago I purchased a Remmington teflon coated steamstraightener for my hair which proved, pretty much, totally ineffective.
I tried straightening serums and various other products with the straighteners but concluded in the end that I'd wasted my money and alot of valuable spare time. These straighteners finally broke last week and have now found their way into the dustbin!
Feeling a little exasperated, I mentioned the problem to my hairdresser, a friendly young girl who loves a natter and a bit of gossip. I told her that my sister's wedding was coming up and I'd
really like to take control of my hair so that it looked half decent for the photographs.
She washed and trimmed my hair as normal and then added some l'Oreal Protective Hair Serum. Only a small amount, about the size of a grape. This was stroked in from the roots downwards and the hair then blow dryed until it was completely dry.
Taking out a slim pair of black ceramic straighteners she then gently ran the blades down the top layer of hair from about half way down, where the kinks start, to the ends. She hardly pressed the straighteners on to the hair at all and the whole process was extremely quick and totally painless.
My hair felt extremely soft afterwards, appeared very straight and professionally styled. Its condition had in no way been damaged, or dryed. My hair stayed straight and styled for three days until its next wash. A great improvement on the usual daily wash and blast with the hair dryer.
The straighteners used by my hair dresser were called Remmington Power Ceramic Straighteners Model No. CS1001. Being extremely impressed I decided to purchase a set for myself.
+++++++++++++++++++ PURCHASE AND PRICE +++++++++++++++++++
I set off to Boots expecting to faint at the sight of the price tag but was pleasantly surprised to discover that they only cost £24.99. As an added bonus, I collected double Boots reward points on this, so a real bargin.
++++++++++ OPERATION ++++++++++
The straighteners are about 10 inches long and attached to the inside of the blades are a pair of lemon coloured ceramic coated plates around 5 inches long and 2 inches wide.
The straighteners have only one heat level, which - be warned - is very hot, so take care not to burn your fingers and don't touch your hair in the couple of seconds after straightening each section. Heating to ready temperature takes 60 seconds - very quick.
On top of the straighteners is an on/off switch and a red power indicator switch. The cable is about 3 metres long which is very handy if your plug socket is not right next to the mirror.
++++++++++++ WHY CERAMIC ++++++++++++
Ceramic plates are the top choice for straighteners as they provide an even heat distribution and are less likely to damage your hair. The plates glide very easily through my long thick hair, which I straighten in sections about 3 inches wide. I usually concentrate on the top layers to avoid any possibility of burning the skin on my neck.
As the hairdresser demonstrated, it is extremely important to use a protective specialist product on your hair after each wash. For extra care there are also protective sprays you can apply before each straightening. If you don't use these, your hair may become brittle and snap - not very attractive.
++++++ SAFETY ++++++
A the Remmington Ceramic Straighteners heat up so quickly and to such a high temperature, I always take care not to leave them anywhere where they are in danger of catching something alight or where the children can get hold of them. It is best to make sure that you attend them at all times when switched on.
Even after switching off don't assume that they are safe as they take a few minutes to cool. Place them on a flat , smooth heat resistant surface. Use clips to section hair if necessary and always start from the back straightening lower layers first. Never go over a section of hair more than twice.
++++++++++++ MAINTENANCE ++++++++++++
Maintenance of the straighteners is very simple, they can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Avoid scratching the plates, as this can effect performance.
+++++++++ WARRANTY +++++++++
The product comes with a 2 Year Service and Warranty from Remmington. To claim this you need to register the product by either completing and posting the form provided or registering on their website www.remington.co.uk.
++++++++++++++++++++ ALTERNATIVE PRODUCT ++++++++++++++++++++
There is another similar product available, the Remington Ceramic and Teflon Coated Straightener which claims to offer double the protection but is more expensive at £34.99. www.boots.com currently have a special offer with this of 1,000 reward points.
++++++++++++ CONCLUSION ++++++++++++
To sum up, I find the Remmington Power Ceramic Straightener to be a product offering exceptional performance and exceptional value for money when compared to others on offer. I really cannot see a reason why anyone would need to pay more for a pair of ceramic hair straighteners.
These will definately be accompanying me to my sister's wedding next week and now I don't think that I can ever do with out them!
Excellent product, excellent value.

(+) Funky pattern, quick to heat up, adjustable temperature, slim, lighweight (-) Have to prise them away from mum when I want to use them in the morning
I invested in a pair of loyal GHD's about 3 years ago now and I've never looked back since... or at any other straighteners for that matter. These do sound like a cheaper alternative but not sure if they'd live up to my super duper high criteria! Lucie xxx

These sound great, and are very reasonably priced too. Jens x
Advantages: They have a little clip thing on base so it can rest on a platform without burning anything, they have a heat-proof bag to put them in once you've finished using them, you can choose the heat setting and they are cheaper than all others in their league. Disadvantages: None...yet!
Advantages: cheap, 60 second heat up, super smooth straight hair, lasts until you next wash your hair Disadvantages: after regular use the ceramic comes off as they are not solid only coated
