The particular model that I am refering to in this review, are the Remington S1002 slim ceramic Teflon coated model. I originally bought these because they were only £35, assuming that they would just about do the job, as I really could not justify paying £100 for GHD straighteners. I thought that GHDs were just a craze, I must admit, it is a craze that has lasted, but I feel they have an unjustified high status.
After using these straighteners for the first time, Iknew that I had bought the right ones. Myhair is kind of frizzy, but also quite oily, (that's hairdresser talk for greasy!). I have always bought straighteners that included a steamer, to moisturise my hair, which always just made it more frizzy. I grew really fed up of this, and cut it off, myself, into a short bob. Surprise, surprise, not but one month later,
ceramic straighteners hit our shelves! Great. I have always been really happy with my Remington straighteners, then, Wet to Straight came out. I was very intrigued, but again, they were, and still are, ridiculous prices. So, I decided to try my straighteners out on my damp hair, after a brief towel-dry. Obviously, due to Health & Safety Regulations, I am not recommending this to anyone, but, I have been straightening my damp hair with my normal Remington 2X Protection straighteners for about 3 months now. I have not electrocuted myself, and I must say that my hair has changed from being well straightened to unbelievably well-conditioned Godess stylee be-A-utiful hair.
I have been training to be a hair stylist for the past 9 months now, and have used almost every brand of straighteners that exist. Although GHD straighteners do the job they are made to do, which is to straighten your hair, they do zap all of the moisture out of your hair at the same time. I am also not a big fan of the poker-straight look, it just looks limp and lifeless to me.
I misplaced my Remingtons 2 weeks ago, unfortunatley just after my tutor had given me the most gorgeous hair cut that could only look good if worn straight. After a week of looking through various catalogues, trying to decide which straighteners to replace them with, (and straightening my new 'do' very quickly at college in the five minutes before my tutor arrives, because he said he would only cut it if I promised to straighten it!), also now with a considerably larger budget, and well able to afford GHD. I had decided to go and buy exactly the same Remington 2X Protection straighteners again. They have proooved themselves well worthy, and more than capable of straightening my frizzy oily mop anyday, and everyday actually!
Then, on the morning of my straightener shopping day, they magically appeared on my bed, I still don't know who found them, the helpful tidying culprit has still not stepped forward! So, as you can imagine I was well chuffed.
These straighteners have a 200C maximum temperature, they are solid ceramic plates, which we all know is what gives the wonderful smooth straightness, solid ceramic spreads the heat more evenly over the hair than just a ceramic coating. These straighteners have a 60 second heat up, which is very convenient indeed. And they are Teflon coated, which cuts down on static, what's the point of straightening your hair if you end up with a big static puff ball at the end of it! They come with a snazzy heat resistant bag, which I don't use whilst I'm straightening, but it is made for that purpose, I simply use the bag/pouch if I go away and take my straighteners with me, which I do, every single time, no doubt!
Unlike some other straighteners, these ones have variable heat, it comes in the form of a small dial on the side, with Thick or Fine written on either side. So, if you have rather coarse hair that takes more heat and time to straighten, turn it up to 'Thick', if your hair is quite fine, then you don't need so much heat, or you'll just end up frazzling you locks. They have a very decent 3m long cable, which is extremely handy if your socket isn't near your mirror, like me! There is a small red light on/off indicator on the top of the straighteners, obviously, to indicate whether the device is........yes, you guessed it, whether the device is on or off!!
Just to clarify, in case you hadn't figured it out yet, I very much recommend these straighteners to everybody and anybody, young, old, bald or hairy!
They retail for about £35 now, as aregular price, they were on sale when I bought them, they should have been £40. You can find them most anywhere, Boots, most electrical places that sell haircare electricals, if you have trouble finding them, which I doubt you would, there's always trusty old Argos!

(+) Funky pattern, quick to heat up, adjustable temperature, slim, lighweight (-) Have to prise them away from mum when I want to use them in the morning
Advantages: They have a little clip thing on base so it can rest on a platform without burning anything, they have a heat-proof bag to put them in once you've finished using them, you can choose the heat setting and they are cheaper than all others in their league. Disadvantages: None...yet!
Advantages: cheap, 60 second heat up, super smooth straight hair, lasts until you next wash your hair Disadvantages: after regular use the ceramic comes off as they are not solid only coated
