When my Revlon developed an alarming noise and packed up I decided to go for a replacement salon style hairdryer with a long life AC motor.

My other requirement was a dryer with a long cable. Fortunately, maufacturers have now cottoned on the the fact that some of us simply can't stretch 12 inches of flex from the socket to the mirror! OK I exaggerate a little, but i think we have all been there.

The Remington seemed to fit the bill.

I've never tried an Ionic dryer before, but it is supposed to reduce static and frizz which is great if you want a sleek straight style. I can't say that I noticed any difference to the finished result.

The first time I used the appliance I immediately noticed how much heavier it was than my previous dryer. It weighs about 600g which is about 120 g heavier than the Revlon (which I still own despite the funny noise) which can be quite tiring when you have to hold the dryer above your head for some time.

It is certainly very powerful and has a good choice of different speed/heat settings but I'm afraid the cool shot button lets the whole appliance down. I noticed that occaisonally when I put the dryer above my head, the air started to blow cool. This happened several times more so I actually took the dryer back to Argos and told them there must be a fault.

I purchased a replacement (£1 cheaper) from Comet and tried again. The same thing happened. I just could not work out what was going wrong until I noticed that my thumb occaisonally touched the blue cool shot button which activated this feature. This is a design fault in my opinion, whenever you adjust your grip and accidentally apply the lightest of pressure against the button, the cool shot kicks in. This is very inconvenient and needs to be remedied by the manufacturer.

The other annoying thing about this dryer is that the removable air filter that covers the motor, keeps falling off.

It's a shame because this dryer is a competitive price, is pretty sturdy and competes very well against other more expensive brands.
