The Remington D 4410 looked a bit pathetic in it's lonely box. Half the size of the many of the other dryers and without any accompaniments I was a little disappointed. For the weeks following Christmas I ignored my D4410 and continued to use my mum's slightly heftier blow drier, until I returned to University, about 2 weeks later.
The first time I used the hair dryer my mind was immediately changed. It is simple ... ...ranging from cool to hot. There is also a cold blast button, good for when you burn your ears. It was a short time before Christmas 2007 when I got the phone call. The one I dread every year "you've got £25 to spend from your Gran." Why is that such a problem? Well it goes like this. Every year around 2 weeks before Christmas I am asked to find myself something for around the £25 mark. There is no option to just have the money, something must be bought. Therefore every year I am forced, despite being organized myself to endeavour into the city, along with the millions of other shoppers and attempt to spend £25 on something I'm not sure I want. But, I hear you repeat, why is this a problem? What it all boils down to is the fact that I don't like spending money, especially when I don't want anything. I find it very difficult.
This year was no different, I sat in my lounge staring at the wall demanding that my fiance tell me what I wanted for Christmas. I don't deny that I'm not easily pleased and like me, he was stumped. Eventually I came up with an idea. I had had my "duck dryer" since I was about 9 and if I'm honest it wasn't the best thing for the job. I tended to have to have a bath/shower when I had long enough to towel dry my hair. Having been to my parents' for the weekend and used her blow dryer, I decided that something I could do with was a good blow dryer/hair dryer.
Having made my decision I headed into the city to find something. Only to be wildly disappointed that everywhere seemed to have sold out of dryers in the £25 range! A trip to Curry's revealed the same, one hairdryer was £18.00, the next £35.00. With only 3 days until Christmas, I picked up the £18.00 hairdryer, slightly disappointed that it didn't have all the add-ons that the other dryers seemed to have and took it to the counter.

The first time I used the hair dryer my mind was immediately changed. It is simple to use with 2 speed settings and 3 heat settings ranging from cool to hot. There is also a cold blast button, good for when you burn your ears. Although slightly boring looking in grey and silver, the dryer is stylish and despite not being in the shape of a duck, I learned to love the D4410 very quickly, and here's why:
- There is no doubt that the D4410 brings a healthy shine to my hair that I have never managed before. Often my hair looks limp and in pain, however, using the D4410 even I have managed to bring a look to my hair that I never thought could be achieved outside of the hairdressers.
- The dryer is quick and can be used either to blow dry your hair quickly or to carefully style it. The various heat settings help with the styling side.
- I still haven't worked out what Ionic means, despite looking at a number of websites but I have gathered that it either has something to do with the speed of drying or something to do with shine. Or perhaps both. Either way, I am convinced that it is a good thing for this dryer to have.
- The size of the dryer means that your arms don't ache after 20 minutes of using it. And although it is reasonably heavy for its size, its shape makes it easy to hold and manoeuvre.
- It's 2000W, so it's a lot less like being stood in a slight breeze and more like being stood in a warm gale force wind and trust me, that's a good thing.
There are also some less exciting points about the dryer, that you may be interested in:
- It had a hanging loop. Although I admit that I have never used it, the hanging loop at the bottom of the stalk on the dryer is perhaps a convenient add-on (if you have a hook big enough to hang it on).
- It has a removable air filter. Which prevents that burning smell we all hate when your dryer gets clogged up with dust,
- It has a 3m cable, meaning that getting from the plug to the mirror shouldn't be too difficult.
- An ion indicator light means that.... Well in honesty I don't know what it means, but I'm sure it's a good thing?? All I can tell you about that is that as far as I'm aware it is on all the time.
- It comes with a 3 year guarantee, meaning at the least, they don't expect it to break in the next 3 years.
So for me, that was £18.00 well spent.
Where can I buy it? -------------------------- I've had a look for it on Amazon and currently they are selling it alone for £14.39. And with a pair of ceramic straighteners for £29.38. Which seems like an excellent deal to me.
