The men in my household are a bit cheap really. They would never in a million years actually dream of paying for a haircut. Instead they enlisted me, someone who until 4 years ago had never cut anyones hair (except the time my mum asked me to give her a trim and she ended up in a headscarf running to the nearest hairdressers). I was really quite nervous at first but as the two men just wanted simple haircuts so I felt that as long as I read the instructions I would be O.K.
Anyway 4 years later and the first set of clippers died on me. It was very a slow and rather painful ending and I had grown quite attached to them. The next day armed with my Boots card off I trot to replace the clippers. I go into a really large Boots store and head over to the electrical section. They have several clippers ranging from £12.99 to £49.99. I dont want to pay too much but I dont want a set that will only last 5 minuites either. I spend a few moments looking at each and opt for the Remington HC 210 c attracted by the price and the number of attachments.

They are £17.99 and the clippers are exposed in the packaging. The actual hand set is really chunky and is metallic silver. There is a blue seethrough plastic lever to the left of the blades. This is the taper lever, which enables you to fine tune the length of the blade. My hands are like shovels so I dont mind the hand set being so chunky, but for those of you with finer features this might be a little on the large and heavy side.

The Remington comes with 8 guide combs which determine how long or short the hair ends up. These are 25mm(1"), 18mm(3/4"), 12mm(1/2"), 9mm(3/8"), 7mm(1/4"), 3mm(1/8") and a left and right taper. Also included is a brush for the blade, a tapered comb and some scissors which are very basic and do not really look very professional. Mmm maybe I should have paid a bit more. There is a grey canvas style zip bag with royal blue piping which holds all the bits in once the packaging has been disguarded. I'm not impressed as it looks a bit old mannish, but I'm just praying by now it does the job.

O.K. I line up my first victim,( my mums partner), who sits in my kitchen on a chair quivering through sheer terror. He has never liked having his hair cut and was sporting quite a mullet when he met my mum. But we soon got rid of that! I plug in the clippers and as they dont need any charging am instantly ready to go. I pick up the clippers and take off the safety cover which is over the edge of the blades. I choose an attachment which I feel will not be too severe as I can always go shorter if needs be. I start at the top, BIG mistake, these attachments look like they will leave the hair much longer than they actually do. Oh well, I have to carry on now otherwise he'd have a dent in his hair. The vibration of the clipper is a low deep buzz and I'm sure you can all imagine the comments that are coming from around the room. This is a family event by the way, sad I know, but we all enjoy watching a grown man squirm. The attachments are quite stiff to get on and off the blades but feel very secure once they are there, so no wonky haircuts here thankyou.

As I progress the clippers seem to jar on several occasions with my victim making the most of being able to yell at me for a valid reason. It appears that hairs are being yanked out fairly frequently, but with a wry grin on my face I continue. I change attachments to do the back but its quite tricky adjusting the levels so that you dont end up with a line. I'm sure any professionals out there are tut tutting me but hey,We're cheap.
I use the scissors to get any stray hairs and also cut round the ears.

The end result is satisfactory, but I wouldnt reccomend these clippers as the accesories are'nt great and well I had a ripping time but I'm not sure my victim will be coming back too soon. Who knows maybe my next review will be on scrunchies.
