Advantages: cheap, 60 second heat up, super smooth straight hair, lasts until you next wash your hair Disadvantages: after regular use the ceramic comes off as they are not solid only coated
...I have straightened my hair since i was quite young first using those metal plate straighteners that you have to clamp down so hard and then try and overlap the line you left. they took about 15 mins to heat up and forever to use and the results were no different if you wanted to only get rid of frizz and kinks. so imagine when i found out about ghds i was ecstatic only to find out they cost about £65 at the cheapest. This was obviously a no-no. Then a good friend of mine introduced me to the remington power ceramic straighteners and they had just as good results. Eventually we started a bit of a cult in our year at school because they were such good value. I only straighten my hair once a week to minimise damamge but my one friend was straightening hers every day and also using them at school to straighten other peoples when we noticed...

Advantages: GHD quality for half the price Disadvantages: I keep pressing the "OFF" button by mistake!
...So, like every other woman/girl I love GHD's-I used a friend's once and was hooked-hers were a gift, but they cost from £95 from selected hair salons. Kept umming and ahhing whether to fork out for some, in the meantime used other people's!
When I was getting ready to go out one night, a friend had brought Remington 2x ceramic straightners round-I used these and could not tell the difference between GHD'S.
Ok, these cost around £49.99 and you can get them from anywhere-Argos, Index etc. They heat up in around 10 seconds-it's only a few seconds more than GHD's anyway!
They have ceramic plated irons, and are fairly slim, they have an on/off sliding button, and a red light appears when they are switched on-the only downfal about these straighteners is that when you are using them, your thumb may turn them off again...

Advantages: Great Hair Days Disadvantages: Not held in such high prestige?
...The particular model that I am refering to in this review, are the Remington S1002 slim ceramic Teflon coated model. I originally bought these because they were only £35, assuming that they would just about do the job, as I really could not justify paying £100 for GHD straighteners. I thought that GHDs were just a craze, I must admit, it is a craze that has lasted, but I feel they have an unjustified high status.
After using these straighteners for the first time, I knew that I had bought the right ones. My hair is kind of frizzy, but also quite oily, (that's hairdresser talk for greasy!). I have always bought straighteners that included a steamer, to moisturise my hair, which always just made it more frizzy. I grew really fed up of this, and cut it off, myself, into a short bob. Surprise, surprise, not but one month later...

Being 21, and finally giving up on trying to save my hair from the curse of the receeding hairline that makes it's way through my family tree I decided to start using some clippers we had lying around in the house to cut my own hair.
Being 22. I wish... more
I have been cutting hair for about 18 years now and still have not earnt a single penny from it.
Yes it's my own hair, while in the army I decided to save a few bob and borrowed some hair clippers and bravely took them to my mop, I soon brought a pair more
