I have been cutting hair for about 18 years now and still have not earnt a single penny from it. Yes it's my own hair, while in the army I decided to save a few bob and borrowed some hair clippers and bravely took them to my mop, I soon brought a pair for myself, and have been cutting my own hair about once every six weeks since, my last set of clippers gave up the ghost a short while ago (they worked a treat at removing plaster from the wall but then failed in there primary task i.e. cutting hair) I am assured this is quite normal when throwing small electrical items down the stairs but let us talk no more of that incident, suffice to say I was in the market for a new set of clippers and have enough experience to know what I was after.
After a short browse through the internet to see what was on offer,
I gave up. There are hundreds of sets of clippers on here, Ciao has over 400 hundreds sets and Google suggested 1.41 million sites to check. So short of spending a week or two on research I did the unthinkable and went to the shops! First stop Boots (well in fact only stop, being male I do one shop where I know the product I am after is sold and end of!) low and behold they had a decent range in both style and price, also being male (at least being me I went straight for the cheapest and started working up from there).
I chose the Remington TitaniumHC600 hair clippers sounds more like a bike than a small hair appliance but that's the power of marketing for you. I chose these clippers over the others on offer for primarily two reasons firstly they are rechargeable and secondly they did not have a daft shortening lever on the side to make the cutter you use 2mm shorter or longer. The price of £24.99 would be my third reason but I only said two so there you go. I happily took my purchase to the till and paid.
I returned home satisfied with my adventure and shopping complete.
On opening the packaging out came a very neat nylon zip bag about the size of wash bag, black with Remington logo at bottom end and a ¾ length zip around the top rim with carry strap. Beside this a plastic bag containing instruction book and prize draw to win £10 000 by registering your products 2 year guarantee. Naturally being male both of these went straight in the bin with remainder of packing. Inside the nylon bag as you would expect was a set of clippers and some of the usual accessories those being: 19mm, 12mm, 9mm, 7mm, 3mm, cutting attachments, left and right taper attachments? Neck brush, cleaning brush, oil, scissors, comb and a charger, to my disappointment there was no instructional cd or cheap plastic cape, they would have gone straight into the bin also but it's the principle!
Now to the hair cut I had had a shower last week so my hair was already clean plugged in the charger, which acts as a mains lead when the battery is flat, juggled the mirrors to see the back and front simultaneously and set to the mop. I have to be honest and say they did struggle with some of the thicker hair At full speed but just push them a little slower and they coped admirably, they made short work of my hair.
In summary the HC600 has an attractive smoky metallic coloured body with a black rubberised grip around the lower half, the attachments are very simple to change, they simply slide off forward and next size slides back on, there is a little click that lets you know it's fully seated. The on/off switch is located centrally and has a reassuring firmness to its operation and they feel very comfortable in the hand, others can feel a little cumbersome to grip. They are fairly quiet in operation and do not pull on the cut, being light it was very easy to manoeuvre them behind me in the mirror and trim the back of my neck, to try out the washable boast I put the blades under the tap and washed away the hair trimmings a quick shake and residual water fell away, the whole lot packs away very easily and I am thus far very satisfied with them.
On a precautionary note in the instructions (I dug them out of the rubbish to write this review) it says they can be used in the shower however it also states they are not waterproof, I am guessing it means do not submerge but a light sprinkling will be fine.
I can honestly recommend these to anyone who uses clippers at home to cut there family's or there own hair, I don't think they would be resilient enough for daily use and certainly would not survive professional work, but for the price, ease of use and styling they get 10 out of 10 from me.
