Just recently I have been doing a lot of drumming activities at work (special needs school) with the children. We have quite a few Remo instruments including 2 of the Tubano drum. This drum is suitable for children over 3 years old.
This drum is my favourite to use with the children. This is a very attractive drum to look at it has a rain forest design picture on the shell colourful pictures of green trees with a leopard behind them colourful flowers and other jungle animals, it really is attractive and sets the theme. This drum has a long black carrying strap on the side; this does make it easier for me when carrying the drum from the music department to the other end of the school. While carrying it I can rarely resist the urge to tap it a a few times. The drum stands tall at 22inches; it has some cut out sections at the bottom so looks as if it has legs to stand on. They have rubber feet which makes it more durable to stand on the floor.
This drum is a very sturdy drum and is not easy to knock over.
It has a 10 inch diameter head has been pretuned. The sound that the head has been pitched to is like a conga drum. The drum chamber amplifies the low tones.
The sound from this drum is good it is not too loud the skin is a Fibreskyn the cut out base allows the sound to escape. The children either play the drum with their hands or with various drum sticks we usually just use hands some of the children find it difficult to grasp a stick. The children love to play these drums. We sometimes play along to taped music sometimes sing a song along or just let the children play freestyle exploring the sounds.
Drums are good for encouraging hand eye coordination and gross motor control. Great for awareness of cause and effect also drumming is good for our mind too helps de-stress see http://www.humdrumstrum.co.uk/health.html for good information of the benefits of drumming and music.
A Remo kids Tubano drum will cost you somewhere between £80 and £ 140 see http://www.omegamusic.co.uk or http://www.rosemorris.com at £109.00 where it costs £82.80. Or
