Advantages: Suitable for troipcal and goldfish Disadvantages: Quite pricey
sized length so there isn't a problem of stretching the wire from the plug to the tank. The tube that delivers the air is very long too so the pump doesn't have to be very close to the tank so positioning of it is good.
This air pump is suitable for tanks that hold between 250 and 600 litres. I chose this as I have a large aquaruim. If your tank is smaller than this then Rena do make smaller air pumps:
Renaair 50 for 5 - 30 litres
Renaair 100 for 30 - 90 litres
Renaair200 for 80 - 160 litres
Renaair 300 for 120 - 300 litres
Depending on what air pump you choose and need will vary on the amount of oxygen will be pumped into the aquarium. The Rena 400 has two air outlets which is great as it means you get twice the output, which is 400 litres of oxygen every hour.
As this is quite a large amount I don't have ...

Advantages: Cheap, attractive and reliable. Disadvantages: Can be irritatingly noisy.
the rising of the bubbles aerate the water. It is actually the bursting on the surface that releases the oxygen. This is maximised by using an airstone to break the pumped air into smaller bubbles, and is quite therapeutic to watch.
I use two RenaAir 50 pumps in my house, one for the goldfish and one for my tropical tank. The Rena 50 is for tank sizes of 10-50 litres (2-11 Gall) and it will deliver 70 litres of air into the water every hour, 24 hours a day.
The unit must be placed in a dry area, above the water level of the aquarium. This is to prevent water back siphoning down the tube and into the pump if the mains supply becomes interrupted. Alternatively a one-way valve can be fitted in the air tube to prevent this (cheap from your pet shop). You may also consider a clamp to restrict the air line and thus regulate flow to the airstone ...

Once upon a time there were ionisers. They pump negative ions into your room, which is normally full of too many positive ions. Positive ions make the air heavy and impure, while negative ions make it light and fresh. The trouble was, that when the positive ions were driven out by the negative, they came to rest around your ioniser in a black heavy sludge, that was unsightly and difficult to clean.
Then, Eureka! The fresh air globe, which is basically an ioniser surrounded by water, so that when the black sludge falls out of the air it falls ino the water and you do not see it.
The fresh air globe does everything it says on the box. It purifies and humidifies the air and gets rid of smells. But it is not designed for humans to use. It comes in three bits with fiddly little wires, meaning it is difficult to move around the room ...
