After having an accident in my previous Clio (a 1.6 16v Dynamique) I set out looking for a new car, eventually I found myself (after much looking) the following car…
A 2004 Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique in flame red, the colour I really wanted, my previous car had digital climate control and an electric sunroof so I purposefully found a car that also had these features.

Environment & Costs:
Insurance Group 3 Tax Band C 142g/km EUROIII Engine Combined fuel economy 45mpg Unleaded petrol 18,000miles servicing intervalsThe car itself was a dream to drive, handles really well and for a 1.2 16v with only 75bhp was quite nippy, although it was rather slow if you were carrying any weight.
The power delivery of the engine is very smooth and gradual and the gearbox is also smooth although the clutch is very light, maybe a little too light.
As for the brakes, they are absolutely fantastic, not at all what you would expect on a 1.2 Clio!
For a car of such a small price it has lots of extras such as the Climate Control, Auto Lights, Auto wipers, features that you would only expect to find on large more expensive cars.
As standard the Clio's (2004 on) come with Michelin energy tyres fitted that are really good, I replaced the tyres on my Clio with Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 tyres that were far better than the standards but when they are getting more out the compound seems to degrade quite badly making them very un-trustable, so I'd recommend sticking with the energy's.
Inside the car is very comfortable for long and short journeys and is well laid out with all buttons within reach, the Climate control is particularly good at maintaining temperature and is exceptional in summer. The sports seats that are fitted are very supportive and are well complemented by the silver seatbelts which in my opinion add a nice little touch to the look of the inside.
Even though the standard stereo is excellent I did replace it with a Renault option stereo the Sony CDX-MP40 which worked with the Clio display and Steering wheel controls.
Despite all the technology and gadgets in the car I was always disappointed that there wasn't a light in the glove box despite the fact that the glove box was also air-conditioned.
On occasions the sports suspension fitted to the car as standard (being as it's a Dynamique model) did feel a little hard, but only really on bumpy roads, the stiffness of it did really help towards it's brilliant nimble handling.
The Clio also has twin rear foglights and twin reverse lights that lots of cars these days seem to be missing (i.e. only having one of each).
I bought the car with 42,000 miles on it and sold it 11 months later with 62,000 miles on and in that time it was totally reliable having never broken down or gone wrong, the only reason we sold the car was because we needed a larger car for the dogs (2003 Laguna DCi Estate)
In that time I had it serviced once which cost £150 from a Renault Dealer which I didn't think was too bad for dealer prices.
The only real complaints I'd have about the car would be about the sunroof, it did occasionally rattle and in heavy rain would leak, my previous Clio also had this problem which Renault tried to fix several times unsuccessfully so it would seem a common fault that Renault know about but don't yet have a cure for.
The bonnet catch problem (highlighted by BBC's watchdog program) never caused me any issues with either of my Clio's being as it was (as advised) regularly lubricated.
All in all I thought the Clio was a fantastic little car and would highly recommend it (as I have many times) to anyone that's looking for a small hatchback that's nippy and economical and also pretty good looking too! I would however advise going for the DCI 80 version which is just as quick but far more economical.
i hope this review is of help to anyone looking for a new car.
The renault clio 1.2 5 door is my first car, for now over 4 years and I have loved every moment driving it. ===Car Specs:=== Make: Renault Model: Clio Variant: 1.2 Dynamique 16v 5dr Colour: Black Fueltype: Petrol Bodytype: Hatchback Transmission: Manual Doors: 5 Power Steering, Electric Mirrors, Electric Windows, Adjustable Steering Column, Remote Central Locking, Immobiliser, Head Restraints, Height Adjustable Seat, Abs, Child Locks, Side Air Bags, ... ...===My opinion:=== The renault clio has been a lovely drive from the day I bought it. At a modest 1.2L engine, its light bodywork has meant it has not detracted from its acceleration. The car drives extremely smooth and despite its compact size it is extremely spacious inside. My car has only driven approximately 25000 miles, so I guess it has not had the time on the road to deteriorate, even so, the car still feels as if I have just bought it. In ...

1.Stylish
The Car Is a stylish model, it is curvaceous and sexy. Personally I think the best style feature is the curvy back bumper. Also the fabric on the seats Is very durable and I have spilt many drinks ect on the seats and they seem to clean up very easily.
2. Good for fuel ... ...drive approximately 150 miles a week and spend approximately £10 per week. I have had a number of different cars (BMW, CORSA) and this is the best for fuel consumption.
3. Low insurance
The insurance group is group 4
So the insurance costs are low
4. Good overall car
I have had this car for 1 year and so far have not had to take it to the garage for anything at all the MOT was clear and I have had no mechanical problems at all. Also the tyres ...

Advantages: space and looks good Disadvantages: uses too much petrol and insurance is high
Hello, this is my first review, so please bear with me while I get the hang on this. I bought my Clio in August 2005 brand new. I have to admit I don't clock up many miles! My car is still quite new and even has that new smell in it.
I bought the Clio because I wanted something different from a Corsa, they are too common and plastic like. My Clio is black and that shows up all the scratches, it looks good though. It has five spoke alloys that I ... ...handle, if you don't want to go fast you don't have to. It has a 6 CD changer in it, I think that was an optional extra, it is very good and sounds amazing when it is turned up loud. The inside has enough space for five adults, a big bonus of having five doors means the back seems slightly bigger than a three door and people can get in and out easier.
The Clio does use more petrol than some other small cars, it might be because it is a 1.2 or because ...

Advantages: Economical, comfortable and fun. Disadvantages: Sometimes feels a little slow, if you're tall it might not be for you.
The Clio, is a fantastic little car. There are so many good points to it. I really like the way it looks, compact and round, it reminds me a bit of a chubby baby. The interior is smart and doesn't seem cheap, unlike other cars I've driven. The extra's you get on the Dynamique version are worth the extra money e.g. the air condition, heated wing mirrors, automatic windscreen wipers and my favourite, the automatic headlights. Ecomonically it is brilliant ... ...only being a 1.2 litre engine and I've not had any problems with mine so far. I'm no expert on the 'drive' and performance of cars but the Clio works for me. It's a good little run around and the 16V give it that extra kick. There are times when after driving my partners larger engine car, that the Clio seems quite slow, but then I didn't buy it for it's speed. There are many things that I like about this car but probably the thing that sold it to ...

Advantages: Automatic headlights and wipers.. sports seats Disadvantages: noisy sunroof
I bought this car back in May 2007. Mine is a black, 53 plate and cost me £3500 from a local dealership. As it's nearly top of the range you get the bucket sports seats. These are unbelievably comfortable. I drove all the way to Alton Towers, which is 170 miles from me, and was very comfortable throughout the whole journey. No numb bum LOL
It handles the road very well!! It is also good on petrol..if driven sensibly. Quite a nippy little car for ... ...of yet.
The only downside is the sunroof. I don't know if it's a common fault or not but I think there's a problem with the seal. it can be noisy while driving.. I just cover it up with my music.
The automatic headlights and wipers are cool too..especially if your lazy like me lol! Headlights can be a pain sometimes though.. they come on while driving in multi story carparks and such lol!
The boot is very spacious for such a small car too! The ...

Brilliant car, Looks the part with alloy wheels, all the mod-cons including 3 rear head restraints and electric windows, and mirrors. Very comfortable due to sports seats and suspension, adjustable steering wheel, seat bels, head rests, recline, and also raise lower seat! Very quick of the mark beats most 1.4's! Sounds nice even as standard. Easy to modify if you so wish plenty of kit available. Helpful Service department. Feels very safe and sturdy, easy and nice to drive. Goood value for money and many available! Very spacious for size! My first car very happy with it and glad I chose this. Advantages: Comfortable ride with willing engine and excellent value for money Disadvantages: Dash marks and scratches very easily
Previosly owned a Citroen saxo bought new - Which was nippy and reliable but maybe a little cramped and a little outdated.
Decided to change after two years and looked around at whats on offer-Couldnt find anything much better until saw the new clio.
Was impressed and put in an order immediatley-The renault dealer franchise was excellent and had to wait 4 weeks for car as they are built to order.
On reciving the car have found the ride quality excellent-the power steering [electronic] excellent-Fuel economy averaging the 50 mark.
The car is very spacious for front passengers but not so roomy for rear ones-depending on seat position-Cd player very good sound with six speakers and best of all a very willing 16v engine.
Have just done over 1000 miles from new and have had no faults-100% reliability.
Only advice on the down side is ...

Advantages: Good handling Disadvantages: Expensive to repair simple problems
I have owned my RenaultClio1.216v Billabong since July 2003. Renault offered me a good deal, with this particular Clio being limited edition with it's interior. I bought this car on the recommendation of a friend, who said they were reliable.
I think they are a very smart looking car, and am not liking the newer style 'squarer' model. The lights are nice, and the interior lovely. I found it to be nippy, and good to handle around the bends.
I had 4 years of reliable driving on it, before the problems started. Having looked after my car, and being very proud that I bought it new, I was surprised that it failed the MOT in 2007. The reason being for the shock absorbers on the car had rotted. Having had this sorted, the car then really started playing up.
Following a long trip, I saw that the 'Toxic Fuel Monitoring' light ...
