Advantages: Excellent MPV (Multi Person Vehicle) with plenty of room and positives Disadvantages: Struggle to find paking with roofbox attached
...but there were only two Renault Espace's there and both my partner and I fell in love.
The Renault Espace 2.0ltre Expression was so very different from all the other MPVs that were lined up.
The outside shape with its clean lines and smooth contours os a joy to behold - somehow oozing confidence in what was inside.
The inside was a revelation.
Many of the MPVs we had looked at were squashed ... ...unit.
The Renault Espace has 7 individual seats which can all be moved or removed seperately from each other. The driver and front passenger seats are comfortable and offer plenty of legroom with the driver's seat having an adjustable lumbar support to afford more comfort whilst driving. Embedded into the back of these seats are 'airline' table trays for the two outer middle row seats.
When we found out we were pregnant I saw it as the erfect opportunity to go into childminding and with this idea planted firmly in my brain we decided to look into MPV s(Multi Person Vehicles).
After having looked at several different models on the internet we decided to go over to Available Car in Castle Donnington to compare them 'in the flesh' so to speak.

The inside was a revelation.
Many of the MPVs we had looked at were squashed and offered very little leg room. They also allowed very little manouverability with seating with the rows rather than the seats acting as a unit.
The Renault Espace has 7 individual seats which can all be moved or removed seperately from each other. Moving back through the vehicle to the middle and rear seats you will find 5 seats which are very comfortable. Each seat can be moved forward or backwards, turned to face either rearward or forward, have headrests and three point ISOFIX seatbelts. The back supports can be reclined for more comfort or can be fully adjusted forward to give a 'table'.
Each of these seats can be removed from the vehicle totally.
There is plenty of storage in the vehicle with cubby holes across the dash area and a 'secret' hideaway section under the floor mats (although I may have just given the game away!) and these cubby holes are present throughout the vehicle.
There are 12v adapters available for all three rows and the air conditioning is freely available to all rows via 'aircraft-like' vents which can be closed or adjusted accordingly.
The dashboard no longer exists in it's traditional format of dials and guages in front of the driver. Everything you need to know now appears in a digital strip giving a clear, legible reading. There is an awful lot of information available to you at the push of a button ranging from how many miles per gallon the vehicle is currently doing to how many miles left before your tank is empty.
There is a multi change CD player in the vehicle and all the controls for this are on the steering wheel or via the remote control that is supplied.
Our particular model is an automatic with cruise control and takes unleaded fuel. The cruise control is excellent - if you have never used it before - and can ensure that you never get caught by speed cameras again - simply set it to the speed you need to be travelling at and hey presto - no more speeding by accident.
What else can I emote about? hmm - so many good things to think of......
Oh yes - the safety element is very high with Airbags around the vehicle and a child lock button that negates the need for fiddling with the doors like we had to do in the good ol' days.
We paid £11,000 for our 03 plate car and have been extremely happy with it ever since although I bellieve that they retail at slightly more than that normally as used vehicles.
We have added a roof box which allows us the space for several buggies (we had 4 adults and 3 children needing car seats and prams in it recently) and that has been the only drawback - we now struggle to park in city centres but as we don't go into them that often we don't really mind that much.
All in all we would seriously recommend this as one of the best MPVs currently available.
Advantages: The ultimate people (family) carrier! Disadvantages: Cumbersome...??
After having extensive engine problems with our first Espace, we decided to take what to us was a big risk and buy another…but how glad we were!
With three kids, we have always needed a larger car to transport the kids, friends and all the baggage that comes with a big family! The Espace is one of the most versatile people movers: not only is it extremely spacious, but it also takes a battering (good with the kids) and, in our family, has been used ... ...negatives because there aren’t many!
· Large, size-wise, for London; sometimes finding parking spaces is not the easiest thing in the world
· The driver is somewhat distant from the rear passengers (something to consider with children)
Good Points:
· Will fit in 7 people!!
· Seats can be removed to create more or less space for baggage etc.
· Front seats literally swivel 180 degrees, other seats fold down to create a ‘picnic-like’ environment!! ...

Advantages: Roomy and versitile. Disadvantages: Slightly course engines and less than perfect buil quality.
Are family has now had our Espace for a year now and have recently came back from holiday in it carrying me my nan, sister, parents, dog and luggage.Along with duties such as these it is also handy as a van thanks to the removable seats or as a coach for me and my six freinds. These are just a few examples of the many thigs we have found the Espace useful for it is the most versitile machine our family has owned and for the money i think the overall ... ...alot of handy features on the espace like for example the removeable sets which can also be repositioned in different combonations. Or you can fold down one of the seats which creates a picnic table. The front seat can swivel round aswell so you can create an almsot living room type feel. Reading lamps are positioned throughout the car giving light to all passengers. In are particular one we also have to sun roofs which is nice and a decent stereo. ...

Advantages: Good looking MPV Disadvantages: My daughter's friend's love having a lift in it
I bought this car because i have two kids and three dog's. Anyway i thought i would buy a 4x4 because i did'nt like MPV's. My husband and i went looking for a 4x4 but they wernt big enough. we found an Espace i stood looking at it for a bit when my husband said "what you looking at" and i said "i quite like this one". Anyway he agreed, a week later we had our new car (well secondhand but it was new to us). it is huge i take the two seats out of the ... ...is a Great dane) and two kids and still you have room. We went camping with the dog's one weekend and it was perfect every thing went in fine with a roof box. And even with all seven seats in you still have a good bit of room for your shopping. The kids love the remotcontrol for the stereo.
It's quite nippy too,i didnt think it would be and it look's quit sporty .
Well we love ours. ...

Advantages: Size, Ride, image, dash layout Disadvantages: 2litre petrol engine underpowered, dificult to change seating layout
I,ve had the Espace since April 2002 and covered 16,000 mile in it so far. Mostly business but a long drive to the South of France for a family holiday proved that it does what it was designed for very well.
The car is extremly comfortable to drive long distances in. My two teenage sons love the fact that they have seperate seats in the back and drop the centre seat down to form a table.
There is a feeling of space when sat in the front and the ... ...is ideal for keeping food and drinks in.
The engine is quiet and the gearchange is smooth and easy, my only gripe is that the 2 litre petrol engine does need to be worked hard when fully loaded (we were towing a trailer)
I love the styling, and think its the best looking MPV on the market. I,ve had no problems with dints and bumps as all the body panels are plastic.
"The Race" special edition comes with loads of optional extras as standard (Multi ...

Last year we decided that out Renault Laguna was just too small to accommodate our growing family plus dog. There had been numerous occasions when we would have liked to have been able to allow our 2 children to invite their friends out for a day trip but the size of our car made this impossible. We also have a large dog so needed a car with enough space to carry him too!
We decided we wanted a 7 -seater M.P.V or people carrier as this seemed to be the best vehicle to meet our needs. We looked at several people carriers including the Vauxhall Zafira, the Ford Galaxy and the V.W Sharan. However with all 7 ?seats in use none of these had enough luggage space and room for our pooch. We have always liked Renault and were impressed with the look and handling of the Espace. Renault also make a larger version of the Espace, the Grand ...
Advantages: Lots of space and comfort Disadvantages: Expensive parts
Having four kids meant we had to get a car with more than the average 5 seats so when we all went out together there was at least somewhere for everyone to sit safely. We started with a galaxy but as this was a company car and had to be returned we scoured eBay looking at people carriers, until we came across the RenaultEspace Grande. We brought it three years ago for £8,500 on eBay.
This is a pretty good looking car for the monster that it is and having a nice rounded smooth body on it made it more pleasing on the eye than some of the boxier varieties out there. The boot door is the conventional "lift straight up" type and is pretty straight down at the rear end. I would have preferred to have the boot as a door type, which opened to the side, as this would have been easier to deal with due to the height of the car. Also as the very ...
Advantages: Space and Practicallity Disadvantages: Fuel economy, reliability and price of Renault parts
I had the previous model to the current 3.0 V6 (the RenaultEspace2.8 v6 RXE auto) and whilst the design of the vehicle is very good I found my car to be generally unreliable. It was expensive to maintain due to the high price of Renault parts and I believe a franchised dealer who I suspect was good at "creating" expensive repairs. Over a 3 year period the following repairs were required (note the vehicle was serviced regularly at a main Renault dealer at 6000 mile intervals)
1. Power Steering unit- cost £600
2. Radiator- approx £500
3. Air Conditioning Unit £600
4. Rear suspension approx £500
5. Front Suspension approx £500 (6 months after rear but not apparently noticed by Franchised dealer when rear suspension was repaired)
6. Blown head gasket and related damage £900
7 3 Car Batteries (electrical fault that was never ...
