Living with a sensible car, its so boring.

Advantages: Easy to live with, controls are light, excellent visbility, good performance when your going for it, excellent handling and road holding.
Disadvantages: Fuel consumption, electrical problems with Engine Management system, short gearing.

...ours was selling his 1998 Renault Megane 1.6 RT for a good price so that how I ended up with mine. Our car had low milage and was well maintained with full services history and all bills and receipts, etc so we brought it.

First impressions were a distinct lack of power, I was used to nearly 300 ft lbs of torque where as the Renualt only has around 100 ft lbs so it did feel very slow, however, like all things you soon adapt and I quickly ...
...the Renault will never set the world alight with its torque it does have a useful surge of power from 3500 rpm up to 5500 rpm so as long as you are reving it, it does go, however, there is a penalty for this, high fuel consumption. If you take it easy and cruise around everywhere, it will do nearly 38 mpg, on a long run even more but around town and when driving it in the narrow power band the fuel consupmtion drops to the mid 20's, rarely tounching ... more

Chosen by default

Advantages: Does exactly what it says on the tin
Disadvantages: Not really a looker

...to themselves, the security concious Renault have put a 30 second timer on the immobiliser, which means that you only have 30 seconds after unlocking the car to get the engine started, otherwise you have to get the key back out of the ignition, point it at the sensor, and restart the process again. Constantly irritating and frustrating - but then I do have to say that the car was never stolen, so who knows!!!!) The inside of the car is also very ...
...space, besides allowing fully grown adults in the back without them being yoga experts. The engine is quite a sweet little number, with a nice sound, but it does lack the torque to really allow you to push the car (Although I have not driven one, I am sure that the 2 litre must correct this shortcoming). The one issue I ever had with the car was that it just didn't look, well, "Nice". The coupe looks good, the cabrio looks great, and even the Scenic ...

Best company car so far

Advantages: nice looks, extensive extras pack
Disadvantages: new style ugly on outside, cool on inside

My dad has had many company cars, but the Megane has to be probably the coolest yet. Its a kind of beigey/silvery pale colour, and is absolutely fully loaded for a Y plate. It has a full electric pack and sunroof, with air con, which is strange as, either a sunroof or air con are fitted, not usually both. A 6 CD changer, rear headrests, and a 1.6 16v engine which roars like a pride of lions. The seats are extremely comfortable, and the car seems ...
...acceleration and speed are both fairly fast, and unlike the Ford Focus we previously had, the remote controls for the CD player, don't stop the driver reaching other more important controls. The car looks good from the outside too with a rear spoiler and quite nice alloy wheels, although unfortunately there are only rear drum brakes fitted to the car whereas with the Golf we had, we had all round disc brakes (People argue they make little difference ...

A great car.......

Advantages: Compact. Good Specification. Economical
Disadvantages: Aesthetically poor.

...its own good and thankfully, Renault have dropped the troublesome original system for one which operates in common with other vehicles. A straightforward "plip" key, click once to unlock and once to lock. Incidentally, the (standard) system fitted to her first Megane entirely spoilt ownership of the car and she traded it in for a later model within 12 months. You have been warned! Anyhow, we`re now on our third 1.6 RT manual Hatchback, and I can ...
...predominantly for short local trips and has always behaved impeccably. The car`s appearance is nothing to write home about, but its functional and user friendly and the alloy wheels fitted together with a rear spoiler do add a bit of style. Three things impress me the most about the Megane - performance, economy and the spaciousness within. The car goes like the proverbial rocket, being very impressive up to and well beyond motorway speeds, helped ...

Renault Megane 1.6

Advantages: Great engine, Nice drive, great electrics pack (on mine)
Disadvantages: Infra red remote (not ultra sonic), over protective immobiliser.

I've had my Megaine for 3 months now and I've nothing but praise for it. It's 2 years old and had 32,000 miles on the clock, now it's got 38,000 and it's been extremely reliable, always starts first time with a reassuring growl that tells you it will always start first time, if you know what I mean. I'm not sure if all the equipment that came with mine is standard but if it isn't pay the extra to get them; Electric windows, mirrors and sunroof are ...
...easy to hand. Also helpfull is the extra radio controls just in reach of my right hand so that you don't have to look away from the road to operate the basic functions. The 1.6 engine in the Megaine reminds me of the old 1.6 that Ford used to stick in the mark 3 XR3i, and I mean that in a good way! It's high revving with a great grunty sound and it will pull away with ease from traffic lights and for overtaking like a 1.8 or 2.0, if you're prepared ...

Renault Megane 1.6 RT Sport, Garlic on the go

Advantages: Comfort, Economy, Brakes
Disadvantages: Gearbox, A few minor niggles, Gearbox

As a part time (employed) motor mechanic I would never have bought a French car but this Megane 1.6RT Sport came up very cheap on 86000 miles with the clutch shot to bits. (NOT a joy to replace) The car was a genuine one owner with a full service history, from the original main dealer. Overall it has given 14 months (10000 miles) of reliable if uninspiring motoring) ===What's good about the Megane=== Fuel consumption, it seems to go forever on £20. ...
...The engine is very willing, especially when taken over 3500 rpm, though there's precious little bottom end torgue. Brakes are lovely, ===What's not so good about the Megane=== The gearbox. (2nd gear synchro is knackered on ours) The steering has little or no feel. You'd be off the road into the scenery before there was any indication of a loss of traction through the wheel. The heater or "tepid air blower" much time is being spent at the moment ...

A real MPV

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: none

I have now been the proud owner of a Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 RT Alize for over a year. Having two young kids, we needed something a bit more practical than the Jaguar which we were currently running and decided to shop around. I quite liked the sleek lines of the Scenic and when I saw then new frontage which was brought out early 2000 and all the extras which come as standard, I decided it was the one for me. I shopped around a few dealers and my local dealer came up with the best deal. I paid £13,000 for a brand spanking new Dark Blue Metallic one. It comes with 16 valve fuel injection engine, 5 speed gearbox, ABS, twin electric sunroofs, electric windows and door mirrors, anti theft stereo system, air conditioning, cool box, engine immobiliser, twin airbags, remote central locking etc, etc. The driving position is ...

Renault Megane Coupe Dynamique+

Advantages: Looks fantastic and great to drive.
Disadvantages: Limited space in the back.

The Car It's a black renault megane coupe dynamique+ 1.6 51reg. I used to have a Renault Clio 1.4RT which I loved, but the coupe was the only car that I would exchange it for (it had to be black). Exterior It looks fantastic, sleek and sexy - the dynamique+ model has a sunroof fitted as standard as well as having air conditioning. It has front fog lights which add to the classy look the car has. It's black which does show up the dirt but it's such a nice looking car that you take pride in and actually want to keep it clean and shiny! Interior There is plenty of room in the front with the seats being able to go up and down as well as back and forth (for us shorties) but is very limited in the back - I wouldn't want to travel a long way in the back! The dash is smart looking with its white dials which give it a sporty look ...

1972 Mustang 5.0L ( 302 ci ) V8 - its a cool car

Advantages: Cool, classic looking car, very rare and different in the UK, speed, once the engine was sorted out and long distance cruising potential
Disadvantages: Heavy fuel consumption, only drum brakes all round with no servo, automatic gearbox

Those of you who have read my review of the Renault Megane 1.6 RT will see that I am placing an order for a new Mustang GT which I am importing into the UK myself. Once you look at the cost of the car from the dealer direct, the cost of shipping and importation, i.e. VAT and 10% duty, etc, and the requirments to get it legal in the UK, it still comes in at under £22K and as nothing really compares with the pony, I am doing it, however, this is not the first Mustang I have owned and I thought you might be interested in hearing about my experiences with a " classic " American car in the UK many years back. The car I am talking about was a 1972 Ford Mustang 302 ci fastback, the same shape as the Mach 1's but without the bonnet scoops and obviously the 351 ci Cleveland V8. I brought my car in 1981 when I was 22 years old. It cost me £1250 ...
