I have had my Renault Megane for 3 years, it's four years old. I have never had any trouble with it, it's great for my family. The car seat for my baby fits snugly in the back and my wife loves it, the reason being - my wife loves shopping, but she's the best woman I've had for shopping, she actually spent £4.80 on a whole outfit!!! But anyway the boot space is perfect for all our shopping.

So have I convinced you to buy the car?

Okay, I've decided to write my opinion in a different style. I want YOU to imagine you are in the car.
So, open the door, get in and sit back and relax..... Is your seat comfy enough? If not then adjust the seat using the conveniently placed levers which are situated just under your knees, left handle for height and right for back/forward - found them? Good then we'll begin....
Why don't you take a look around you first? Directly in front of you is your speed dial and clock, you will not see how many miles you have clocked up unless the car is started, this is because it is a digital mileometer. At the right of the steering wheel (which is fitted with an airbag) is a remote control for the stereo system - which saves you having to lean over and fiddle with the radio, you can even MUTE the music. The seats are comfy, the interior classy. It's a spacious car, why don't you jump in the passenger seat? Now stretch those legs....isn't it suprising that you can? Look above you... there is an electic sunroof that you can fully open or partly open, there is also a shade that you can close, but it's sunny today so I think we'll open it. So it's back in the driving seat then...put the key in the ignition - note how easily it slips in, and start the car - first time! Mmmm...starting to like the car yet? Okay now press and hold the centre button of the sunroof control which is beside the sunroof itself, press it towards the back of the car (pressing at the front will raise it slightly)this will open it fully. So where will we go? You are in Germany... how about a drive on the autobahn (motorway) best thing here is there is no speed limits. Press your foot down on the accelorator - you're reaching speeds of 130mph - have you noticed yet that the car moves without a noise, how easy it is to steer the car (that's the power steering) The tyres grip the road and the ride is smooth. It's got dark now, you'll need to close that sunroof. Wait a minute, Where are you going? Where are we? You've got us lost, do you have a map? You do, good, now find a place to stop. Right, reach into the glove compartment - easy to open, holds a lot, grab the map. I know, I know, it's dark but if you hold on, I'll tell you what to do. Do you know where the button for the sunroof was, well at the side of it is another button, press it, we have light!! This is the map light and is handy for things like that. So now you know where to go, get yourself back home then. Okay we're back, now I left a little something in the boot for you. It's locked so you'll need the key. Right, remember to lock up the car. Now open the boot , wow it's a flat packed table, a travel cot, 4 flat packed chairs and a box of goodies and there's still space for more. Get the stuff out then. And lock up. It's no good pressing the raised bit on the key, this car doesn't have an immobiliser.
Right you've had the test drive here's the bits you'll want to know about.

Advantages: Good miles to gallon Disadvantages: Gearbox, few electrics
I have now owned a renault megane 1.6 classic for the past 18 months it is a S reg model made in 1999. I have found the car to be so far very reliable with no real problems at all to report. The only problem with it I have noticed is a gear change problem when changeing into 2nd gear. I also have found it strange the car comes with a Electric sunroof as standard but does not come with electric windows or central locking. The car performs very well ... ...job takes me on many long runs and the car sometimes does more than 2000 miles a week with no problems at all and does it at a low cost. The car does not have the best comfort levels the seats are hard and the driving position is awkward at times with knees banging on wiper controls. It is fitted with air bag for driver has standard but no other devices are fitted. With regards handling the car performs well in this department with the power sterring ...

Advantages: MPG, boot space, sensible looks Disadvantages: Embarrassment factor of having to call it a classic
This review relates to a 1997 P reg.
More a conventional style of car rather than a classic, but it didn't take me long to prefer this saloon version rather than the more common (and original) hatchback version.
The car is essentially the same as the hatchback, but with a boot bolted on the back, so its longer but with more boot space. However, I prefer to look at it the other way - the hatch is basically the saloon but with the boot sawn off.
... ...that the plip receiver is situated directly underneath the aerial and I was unfortunate enough to have a leak that shorted out the receiver. As the plip also takes care of the engine immobiliser as well as central locking, it had to go back to the garage to be fixed. Now it is starting to show its age and changing back into first gear is sometimes a problem. ...

Advantages: Spacious inside, Economical, Smooth, Quiet Disadvantages: Doesn`t do 1 car seat, 1 baby seat and 1 adult in the back
...1.6 16v engine but the Renault Megane left it standing.
There have been some reviews in the Autotrader which stated that there had been problems with Headgaskets going but to be honest I have 66k on mine and so far not one problem.
One small thing that is a bit of a pain is that the front airbag can`t be turned off to put a baby seat in but this aside with front airbags and also side airbags this leads to be one safe car.
Only downside is that ... ...seat as well there is not a lot of room for the mother in law. (Did I say downside?)
10 out of 10 for this car
They are very few and far between to get one in the old shape but even so seen the new shape and they look just as good.
I have written down just about everything that I can say about the car but if anyone is ever thinking of buying one and wants to know anything then please just drop me an e mail and I`ll do my best to answer. ...
