Advantages: Very economical and stylish (and doesn't have 'estate in it's name!) Disadvantages: Haven't found any so far
With tthe arrival of our second baby, we had to finally conceede that we had well and truly outgrown our little three door Renault Clio and so the hunt for a bigger began.
Like a lot of people, our budget was quite tight and so an important factor in our search for a family car was value for money. I therefore hit the internet in search of a good sized car that wouldn't break the bank, either to buy or to run.
We decided on an estate because of the boot space, we just had to research what was avaliable.
We decided on the RenaultMegane Sport Tourer for a number of reasons.
Here are some of the pros:
1. It offered excellent value for money compared to makes such as VW, Ford and even Peugeot.
2. The boot is very spacious.
3. Being a 1.4 cc it is really economical to run in terms of petrol, road tax and insurance ...
Advantages: Relatively cheap to buy, reasonable looking, good space, solidly screwed together Disadvantages: Utterly lacking in performance, main dealer service, started to become unreliable after 30k
My wife bought our RenaultMegane in 1999 to replace a very dog eared Vauxhall Nova that she had driven for years.
We both liked the look of the Megane and I had read some relatively good magazine reviews about the car so we hot footed it to the local main dealer to part ex the Nova.
As a portent of doom, literally 300 yards away from the Renault garage, a lad in Ford Sierra (Halfords Special) GLS decided his brakes did'nt work and smashed into the back of us, neatly disabling the poor Nova for good. I let him off the hook though, he looked so frightened and the Nova was only worth about fifty quid.
Needless to say, we walked out of the Renault garage a couple of hours later and clambered into our shiny 6 month old Megane1.4 Paris.
We bought the poverty spec model as I have driven various French cars in the past ...
Advantages: Cheap to run, safety, reliable Disadvantages: not very responsive
RenaultMegane1.4i fiji. Bought this car from a renault dealler in 2005 , after my father bought the 1.6 liter version.
The car has an excellent saftey and reliability record, I have had a serious crash in the car and came out with a scratch, after the car was repaired we have had no trouble.
Has nifty gadegts, on board computer, the informs of mpg, distance untill next fill up, miles since last fill up. Also has traction control Stablility control (ESP), heated seats, very adjustable front seats and stearing wheel. front arm rest. plenty on leg room in the rear and decent boot space.
on long trips down the A9 we often get 50+ mpg, in town its more around 33ish.
Not much difference in horse power between the 1.6 and 1.4 version think its only about 15 so for insurace purpose i recommend the 1.4 ...
