Advantages: Good looks and nice gadgets Disadvantages: Relaibaility and a little underpowered
I own the 1.6 version of the Megane but with the same trim level. All of the gadgets make easier and the onboard computer is good for working out fule economy and range left on a tank of petrol. However, the Megane is a large car and even with the 1.6 engine it seems a little underpowered, therefore I would avoid buying anything under the 1.6 engine, and would actually go for the 2 litre version. Also as it is a Renault there are always issues with reliability. In the year that I have had mine (an 04 plate) I have spent over £750 on small problems that require a diagnostic to be run on the engine managment system, all very costly. My advice would be to avoid Renaults and to pick a badge that returns better reliability statistics i.e. a Japanese manufacturer. ...

The only other thing is the fuel consumption which i found on the motorway was fine but when you go around town i find it very thirsty and beind a 1.6 and automatic it does seem a little under powered . ...
Advantages: stands out from the crowd Disadvantages: reliability, badly built, poor dealers,
i bought a renaultmegane in april 2006 and from the first week the car was a problem it had constant intermittent electronic faults displayed on the dash board when i returned the car to the main dealer (Renault Cardiff) i had bought it from they would allways say there was nothing wrong with the car they even once called my wife a LIAR saying that she was making up the fault. then about 8 monthes after i'd bought the car my wife was driving home from her grandmothers with my new born son in the car when it started playing up all the lights started flashing the dashboard lights all lite up and when she did get home she couldnt switch the car off she had to stall the car then call the AA out. When the AA arrived the diagnosed the fault as water leaking into the relay box (a common fault on most megane's according to the AA engineer ...
