Renault Megane Convertable 1.6

Advantages: Stylish and surprisingly roomy in the boot
Disadvantages: sluggish engine

The Meagane has a five star safety rating which was just the assurance I needed when I becam a first time mum. My two seater Tigra was no longer big enough to carry everything I needed, and the Meagne provided the stylish looks but practical features I required. The boot provided enough room for a large Silver Cross Pram and plenty of shopping as well. The seatbelts in the back where long enough to hold securely a baby seat and the storage compartments where used to full capacity. One problem with the Megane is the 1.6litre engine feels sluggish and slow but the air conditioning, digital diplays, and fully retractable lid make up for its shortcomings. A lovely car for family to own but not one for the boy racers. Fuel consumption was excellent and despite reading reviews on poor retractable roof quality mine has not had a problem ...

The new Renault Megane Disapointment

Advantages: good cruise control, plenty of stowage, it's not a Vauxhall!!
Disadvantages: lousy performance, poor fuel consumption, too gadgety

I was recently given one of these as a temporary company car when the lease on my Peugeot 307 SW ran out after 3 years and 125,000 miles of completely trouble free driving. The downsides: It is petrol engined, so it drink fuel like it is going out of fashion and is quite frankly gutless. whereas my 307 would cruise happily at illegal speeds, the Renault feels as though it will fall apart at 70, and instead of 56 mpg we are getting about 35. There are a lot of clever gadgets but none of them really add anything to the driving experience, instead of a key there is a plastic card that you shove into a slot, then press a button to start the engine. It's a little thing but I've been happily turning a key for the last 30 years and don't really understand what benefit the card has, apart from producing an interesting bulge in my ...

Review of Renault Megane Sport Tourer 1.6 VVT

Renault Megane 1.6 RT Sport, Garlic on the go

Advantages: Comfort, Economy, Brakes
Disadvantages: Gearbox, A few minor niggles, Gearbox

As a part time (employed) motor mechanic I would never have bought a French car but this Megane 1.6RT Sport came up very cheap on 86000 miles with the clutch shot to bits. (NOT a joy to replace) The car was a genuine one owner with a full service history, from the original main dealer. Overall it has given 14 months (10000 miles) of reliable if uninspiring motoring) What's good about the Megane Fuel consumption, it seems to go forever on £20. Comfort, Plenty of extras. General reliability. The engine is very willing, especially when taken over 3500 rpm, though there's precious little bottom end torgue. Brakes are lovely, What's not so good about the Megane The gearbox. (2nd gear synchro is knackered on ours) The steering has little or no feel. You'd be off the road into the scenery before there was any ...
