Renault Scenic 1.6

My previous 4 cars were:- Vauxhall Cavalier,Audi 100cdi,Saab 9000 turbo and finally a Renault Safrane 2.2 auto exec. As you can see, all large cars with the added luxury of plenty of extras. Time to change my car came around in March 2003 due to becoming disabled, the need to transport my grandson around safely and getting him strapped in properly without hinderance of tight spaces or awkward belts etc. First off, I had to have a smaller car but being 6' 2" I had to have plenty of space. I am not a mechanic, or indeed mechanically minded. My Dad once tried to show me how an engine worked over breakfast when I was trying to cram for a German test and then got cross with me when I wasn't interested. So it does actually feel strange to feel that happy with a car that I've wanted to write a review on it. This review refers to the 1.6 Grand (5 seats plus 2 'jump' seats in the boot) Scenic Dynamique (Luxury) 2004 model. I recently drove an '06 model and there appears to be no differences. The Good Very stylish and bright instrument display. Excellent interior lighting - the footwell lights are really good and make a big difference on those dark winter nights. Lots of storage under seats and under footwells. Storage box between the two front seats is very good (and yep it's got it's own light). Good turning circle for a large car. I have recently bought this car for my girlfriend. We have a child, and regularly carry 4 adults and a child in a child-seat in the car, and even in our estate car this proved to be uncomfortable to say the least. So we decided to look at the MPV market. Having a budget of £8,000, this meant we couldn't entertain the newer mini-MPVs such as the Zafira or Picasso, so we looked at the Scenic, Espace, Galaxy etc. The Scenic won hands down - mainly as we didn't need a 7 seater, five good seats was what we were looking for, so that we can put the child seat in the back, and then still seat two ... more

Scenic wasn't the car I intended buying. I had a Vauxhall Vectra and my company said it was time to get a new car. I was happy with the Vectra, except rear vision is poor and thus reverse parking a pain. I could have just reordered a Vectra but thought I ought to see what else was on offer. Perhaps I should make it clear now that I have no interest in cars. I just want an effective means of transport, I want it to start when I turn the key.
