I have now been the proud owner of a Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 RT Alize for over a year.
Having two young kids, we needed something a bit more practical than the Jaguar which we were currently running and decided to shop around. I quite liked the sleek lines of the Scenic and when I saw then new frontage which was brought out early 2000 and all the extras which come as standard, I decided it was the one for me.I shopped around a few dealers and my local dealer came up with the best deal. I paid £13,000 for a brand spanking new Dark Blue Metallic one. It comes with 16 valve fuel injection engine, 5 speed gearbox, ABS, twin electric sunroofs, electric windows and door mirrors, anti theft stereo system, air conditioning, cool box, engine immobiliser, twin airbags, remote central locking etc, etc.
The driving position is quite high up and very comfortable. It is very easy to get in and out of and there is oodles of leg room for rear seat passangers. There are 3 independant rear seats, all of which can be folded down flat, or completely removed to give extra storage space and turn a family car almost into a van! There are lots of hidden storage boxes - one under each front seat, two under the floor in the rear, one long one under the removeable rear seat and two small ones in the side of the boot. There are also bottle holders at the side of both rear sears. Very handy when travelling with thirsty kids who love to take lots of toys with them.
The front glove box locks and there is another handy storage compartment in the front dahsboard. The instruments are all very easy to read and there is a good view from all windows. There is also a control for the stereo attached to the steering wheel which is an excellent idea.
I have a 1.6 petrol engine which gives me about 32 miles to the gallon around the town and about 37 mpg on longer journeys.Servicing is only every 12,000 miles or annually and I paid only £80 for its first service. it appears from looking at second hand Scenic's for sale that they also keep there price very well.
I recently experienced a problem and had to have the coil replaced but evne although it was 2 months out of warranty, Renault agreed to pay 90% of the cost, which I thought was very reasonable.all in all, I am very impressed with the vehicle and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
