I have owned my Renault Scenic since last March. I bought it second hand from a dealer for £6999 for an R Reg with 48,000 miles on it and full service history and I am very happy indeed with it.
The Scenic is often described an MPV however I think of it as just a large car, My husbands Ford Galaxy is an MPV
My original plan was to buy a sporty little number and did test drive quite a few and then my husband suggested the Renault Scenic as he thought it was far more practical.
I was not easily swayed but we took it out for a drive and I was plesantly surprised by the amount of poke it had, even more than some of the sporty little numbers. However I was petrified of it, I thought it was just too big. The drivers seat seemed very high off the road and the steering wheel seemed huge, but there was so much space in the back for my leggy teenage children and the boot was huge, perfect for my monstrous shopping trips. So I took the plunge and bought it.
By the end of the first day I loved it, it is really easy to drive and if you can find a space big enough it is really easy to park as well and very soon the feeling of driving a big car fades away and it just feel normal.
It has central locking operated by a plip key which makes life very easy indeed. However you do have to be careful to aim the key in the right direction to get it to open first time.
You can easily fit three adults in the back and all three seats have a proper three point seatbelt and headrests. Both front seats have airbags for extra safety. My son is particularly impressed with the trays on the back of the seats he now prefers to go to the drive in at Mcdonalds so that he can eat in the back of the car.
I am not very technically minded when it comes to car stereos but even I can use and programme this one. The controls are on a stick on the steering coloumn so it is easy to change from cassette to radio or radio station whilst driving.
However the one thing that really impressed me was when a driver drove straight into the back of me when I was stationary. It was a huge bang and I was very shaken up, the only evidence on the car however was a dent in the bumper and the boot would not open. My husband did not believe the crash was as big as I said, however when we took the car to the garage they showed us how the floor of the boot had crumpled with the force of the crash and he told us that if I had been driving a smaller car it would probably have been written off and I could have been hurt.
I did think of changing the car when I had it back after the crash but I just love it too much and I now know that I definately made the right choice.
I used park my previous car in carparks and forget where it was but this car has roof bars and I can see it above all the other cars in the car park.
My husband drives a Ford Galaxy but I have to admit the whole family prefers to go out in the Scenic. I would recomend this car to everyone especially if you have leggy teenagers like me and I bought it for the same price as I was going to pay for my origianl sporty little number.
