Rennie tablets The Rennie brand is seemingly one of the most recognisible in it's category. They are taken for indigestion and heartburn but are also supposed to relieve wind problems and problems with digestion in pregnancy. This particular product is the spearmint flavour which is part of a whole spectrum of Rennie products including 'Rennie Ice' and 'Rennie fruit'.
Indigestion and Heartburn..what is this? As I didn't know really what indigestion was I thought I'd tell you what I learnt about it! Incase anyone reading this is unsure of whether they need to consider this product or not. It is casued by a build up of too much acid in your stomach and means that generally a pain is felt in the stomach or just behind your rib cage. Some people say it is caused by eating too fast or spicy foods which I think is true but to be honest, whenever I experience it, I'm not quite sure what brings it on. My indigestions pain isn't severe as I've heard some people can get it really ba dand feel sick and physically vomit. Heartburn, I wasn't really aware of. I thought that it was the same as indigestion but apprently
it's not! Heartburn, in my opinion hurts more (thank goodness Rennie!!) It really does burn! it's when the acid from your stomach travels up to your throat. If you have eaten too much sometimes this happens but it can really hurt because some people eat more to try and make it go away but it just gets worse.
Insturctions of use Adults can safely have a maximum of 16 tablets per day and these are to be sucked or can also be chewed. (I reccommend sucking because chewing them makes the experience more chalky!) Children can also take these tables but it's not recommended that under 5s are given them. But take care when reading the instructions and ensure that they are read thouroughly because 5-8 year olds can only have a maximum of 6 tablets in one day. 8-12 year olds can have a maximum of 12 tablets a day.
My experiences and opinions. I had never had inidgestion before so I didn't really know what it was until one day it just came upon me and I wasn't sure if it was definately indigestion. I asked a friend what it was and she described it to me and it seemes as though she was describing exactly what I was feeling. I went to the nearest Tesco and bought a pack of spearmint Rennies. I was going to opt for some other brand which I can't remember the name of but the Rennie tablets where cheaper so I thought it would be okay to go with them. The box is red and inside where 24 tablets. They were sealed in the metal sheet casing which many medicines can be found so they are able to keep fresh. When I fisrt popped one out the packet they seemed alot larger than I thought they would be and they are square in shape. The taste is lovely. I do like spearmint alot and expected them to taste worse than they actually did! In fact, to be honest I once had one when I ran out of mints in my car! The only thing is, they are a bit dry and crumbly, kind of have a chalky element to them which is not so good.
In my opinion, they really do work. After a short while, probably 10 minutes or so, I began to feel at ease as my indigestion was starting to dissapear after half an hour at the most it had gone. I had to take two tablets (one after the other) to achieve this. I was so satisfied as I have no idea how they work and I was a little sceptical that this chalky tablet would stop this horrible feeling.
I have since taken them when I had really bad heartburn as well and they were excellent again. I think I paid around £2.40 for 24 tablets which is excellent value but I have also seen them in poundland which is great for those who suffer these problems fairly regularly. They are definately useful to store in the medicine cupboard as you never know when indigestion or heartburn is going to pop up! And somtimes both can be very painful, as I have now learnt. I'm not a regular user of these but whenever I do feel I need one, they are there for me and have never let me down!
I think what's great about these, as well is that pregnant women can use these too and also women who are breastfeeding. It would be impossible to count the number of medicines which state "Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding." It's great that this product is safe enough for women at a vulnerable time, as it is common for women to experience heartburn and/or indigestion during pregnancy.
I think what's also so great about Rennie is that it's quite a versatile product as it can be used not just for heartburn and indigestion but also for other discomforts and symptoms including flatulance, tummy upsets etc. etc. I'm not sure how well this product works for other discomforts so I won't name the whole list in the boobklet, it's best to visit the Rennie website for this kind of guidance, but I can tell you for indigestion and heartburn it is absolutely spot on! In my opinion, completely recommended.
Make sure you read the instructions to check you are not alergic to any products as with all medicines, it may not be suitable for you.
