Advantages: Works almost instantaneously Disadvantages: Not so good for those with pets
One summer I had a much-needed use for an insect killer, and this is how the (rather gross) story goes. I had moved into my first house but had no previous domestication and decided to attempt making a roast chicken-it wasn?t to bad, but it got worse-as the bin was full I simply put in a carrier bag a threw it next to bin-wish I had the power of hindsight now! Weeks later I noticed that flies appearing everywhere and pupating fly chrysalis everywhere on the floor-upon further inspection I found a rotting chicken behind the bin supporting a family of maggots-GROSS! So how am I going to get rid of those awful flies that had emerged from my rather bad cooking experience (and lack of home domestication!)? I tried hitting them with a newspaper but I wasn?t quick enough so down the shops to get some insect killer?

Advantages: Pleasant smell Disadvantages: Does not kill flies in seconds; often not at all.
I am very disappointed with Johnson Raid Fly & Wasp Killer. It is quite useless at getting rid of house flies in my area. Far from killing flying insects in seconds, you have to spray very long bursts at individual flies to have any effect on them. Then they often just get up again! The scent is nice. Have the makers put air freshener in the aerosols by mistake?

My environment is clean and waste disposal and recycling services are efficient. This particular brand of fly spray seems to be the only one available in local stores and supermarkets that I frequent. Is it the case that for health and safety reasons the power and effectiveness of products like this has been drastically curtailed ...
Advantages: It kills the little darlings - eventually Disadvantages: Contains noxious chemicals which are bad for us and our environment
, the numbers of flies did not appear to be diminishing. Could it be that the blue light was actually attracting more into my space? Of course the lanterns were also adding to my carbon footprint by increasing electricity consumption. After a few months both lanterns were consigned to the shed where they remain.
I returned to chemicals in the form of strips and window stickers but, although I did find some dead victims, they didn?t really seem too effective and my rooms still had plenty of unwelcome flying guests. Moreover the window stickers left a sticky oozing substance which I found impossible to remove. Therefore, with some reluctance, I again purchased a can of Raid
