Resident Evil [DVD]

Resident Evil [DVD]

Given that Resident Evil is a Paul Anderson movie based on a computer game which was ... more

itself highly derivative (especially of George A
Romero and James Cameron films), it's probably
unfair to complain that it hasn't got an original
idea or moment in its entire running time. In the
early 1980s, Italian schlock films such as Zombie
Flesh Eaters and Zombie Creeping Flesh tried to
cram in as many moments restaged from American
originals as possible, strung together by silly
characters wandering between monster attacks. This
is a much-improved, edited, photographed and
directed version of the same gambit. As amnesiac
Milla Jovovich remembers amazing kung fu skills
and anti-globalist Eric Mabius mutters about evil
corporations, a gang of clichéd soldiers without a
distinguishing feature between them (except for
Michelle Rodriguez as a secondary tough chick) are
trapped in an underground scientific compound at
the mercy of a tyrannical computer--which
manifests as a smug little-girl-o-gram--fending
off flesh-eating zombies (though gore fans will be
disappointed by the film's need to stay within the
limits of the 15 certificate) and CGI mutants, not
to mention the ever-popular zombie dogs. It's
tolerably action-packed, but zips past its
borrowings (Aliens, Cube, Deep Blue Sea) without
adding anything that future schlock pictures will
want to imitate. -- Kim Newman

The Beginning of the End

Advantagesgreat game | great graphics | been remade

Disadvantagesits scary | not for young kids | never play at night

"This is a review about Resident Evil for the Gamecube; it has been graphically enhanced to the Gamecube standards, which makes the game much more fun to play. This game is not short, it is very long, and scary, and also it has a good storyline. It also has bits which make you want to be scared, like when you enter a room, the door opens all freaky, like all resident evil games do. The game is set in a Mansion that is in the middle of a wood, which ..." Read review

Resident evil 1 Gamecube Review

AdvantagesA great improvement of the origional

Disadvantagesit's abit easy untill you unlock the harder modes

"...shape, or form, should the Resident Evil Games, be in anyway associated with the Resident Evil movie franchise, they are seperate entities entirely (with the games for the mostpart being very good, and the movies being utterly mediocre). This game is a remake of the origional which was first released on Sony's Playstation back in 1996, and was somewhat revolutionary for it's time. Whilst it was by no means the first "survival horror" game, it became ..." Read review

Resident Evil had a makeover and became something truly beautiful

AdvantagesAmazing plot and great new plotline, Still superb graphics, Atmospheric music.

DisadvantagesNo multiplayer, May not have great longevity for some.

"Remember the Resident Evil for the Playstation? The atrocious cut scene at the start that made you want to laugh and cry? The great plot let down by poor graphics? Well Capcom has decided that enough is enough and has decided to bring the original to the Gamecube. Not just a port…or an update in graphics, a totally new game. Gone are the pixellated graphics of the original, in come detailed character models and beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds. ..." Read review

A fantastic remake

Advantagesgreat visuals, plays brilliantly

Disadvantagesinventory system can be irritating

"...the Dark games, the original Resident Evil on playstation and PC is a hugely iconic third-person survival horror in which you find yourself running around a creepy gothic mansion infested with zombies, solving puzzles, carefully conserving your limited ammo and er, eating pot plants in order to stay alive (okay, so technically they're herbs). The Gamecube remake is very faithful to the original, with a very similar atmosphere and art ..." Read review

Remake of a classic - better or worse?

Advantagesenjoyable game, lots of zombies to kill

Disadvantagesvoice acting is a little off.

"...Gamecube remake of the first Resident Evil game, in my opinion, is slightly better than the original. Whilst I enjoyed both games, the remake was much more insightful and frightening to play. Game Plot The player chooses the scenario they want to play which is Chris or Jill. I have only ever played as Jill as her scernario is easier but it is completely down to the players preference. Jill, a member of S.T.A.R.S alpha team, alongside Albert Weskter, ..." Read review
