Well here it is; the highly anticipated Resistance 2, featuring much improved graphics and gameplay. In my opinion, this sequel to one of the original Playstation 3 launch titles, Resistance: Fall of man surpasses it's predecessor in every way.
I'll be honest and say I was incredibly dissapointed by Resistance: Fall of Man, it was the first game I played on the Playstation 3 and couldn't really see a huge difference between the graphics in front of me and a PS2 game, I felt the same about the gameplay; something really didn't click with me, I felt the energy bars were a bit retro and the constant action just didn't feel as next gen as it should. There were good points to the game however; the story was pretty original and the character design was good, it even stirred up a fair ammount of controversy due to it's realistic portrayal of Manchester Cathedral. Even the online play was decent at the time but things have moved on significantly since the games release.
The first thing I noticed about Resistance 2 is that it is a lot more colourful than the first game, not only that but there's a hell of a lot more going on in the environment and well, the graphics are just a lot better; plants flow with the wind and leaves tumble around. The character designs, the explosions, the scenery have all been improved, moving away from the British setting in the first game into American Territory, featuring re-imagined locations such as San Francisco, the Twin Falls in Idaho, The Bryce Canyon in Utah, Chicago and Louisiana. Not only are the graphics an improvement but the water effects are some of the best I've seen on the PS3 and sometimes the environments are genuinely breathtaking. The Idaho section in the Twin Falls is particularly stunning and probably the best woodland area I've seen on a game.
The gameplay is a lot more varied in this game, sure it's not the most varied game ever but what Fall of Man did, this game makes more intense, the carnage is a lot more frantic and the violence more extreme, soldiers are ripped in half, blood spatters across the ground and shotguns leave body parts rolling around the floor. The Chimera are a lot more menacing in this game and the hatchling Chimera give an injection of survival horror as they run at you like the zombies from 28 Days Later, there is also a fair ammount of tension and frightening surprises, the ocassional dark corridors and Chameleon will shake even the most hardened horror buff. The level design is far more inspired this time around yet the atmosphere feels less like an alternative WWII shooter and more like modern/futuristic warfare.
What Resistance 2 has cleverly done is borrowed the best bits of other FPS's and utilised them to it's advantage. The first game that comes to mind is the Half Life series; the massive bosses, the underwater enemies, even the level design. Another is the Timesplitters games, there is more environmental interaction; the water ripples as you walk through it, windows crack realistically and cars explode if you shoot them enough. Again the Leviathan boss reminds me of the Portal Daemon on Timesplitters 2 although the Leviathan is a hell of a lot bigger. In fact the boss battles in this game are what truly make it memorable and if you're doubting the size of the bosses imagine Godzilla, you'd be pretty close. The controls are now more user friendly than in it's predecessor, a tap of R4 is a melee attack, like in Call of Duty 4 and L2 held down is to run and yes, our protagonist even runs with his gun down and the screen blurs...just like Call of Duty 4.
The game features multiplayer in two variations: cooperative and competitive. Both multiplayer modes track the player's performance, gaining experience and leading to benefits and rewards, as well as assigning the player a skill ranking.
Unlike its predecessor, Resistance 2 does not offer co-op for the single player campaign. Cooperative mode features a separate campaign mode which runs parallel to the single-player campaign. The cooperative campaign supports anything from two to eight players, taking the role of a special forces group called "Specter Team". Players are tasked with many randomized objectives around the map, while defeating hordes of Chimera in the process. The strength of the enemy forces is altered based on the number of players and their skill levels. There are three classes to choose from: Special Ops - long-distance damage dealers, who also provide ammunition; Soldiers - the "tanks" who endure the most damage; and Medics - who drain life from enemies and impart to teammates.
Competitive mode features support for up to 60 players at any given time; the highest number of players for any PlayStation 3 online game. Four games modes are available: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag (Core Control) and Skirmish, while involved players getting split up into squads of six and take part in objective-based proxy-battles. Players can play as either the Humans or the Chimerans, and get to choose their weapon loadout when before and during a game while respawning. Maps have varying sizes and layouts for the different game modes and number of players.
So far this is one of the best FPS's I've played and in joint place with COD4 and the Orange Box for PS3. Insomniac have made what was in my opinion an average, underachieving game an excellent sequel, for one of the first times ever, I must say it is okay to believe the hype. .
Advantages: Two people can go online simultaneously Disadvantages: Not many multiplayer modes
Resistance 2 is a relatively new game for the PS3, and seems to be one of the nearest challengers to Call of Duty in terms of first-player shoot 'em ups. Unfortunately, it doesn't really get close to this standard, as I will explain over this review.

STORY MODE
The single player story mode follows the main character as they struggle to overcome the Chimeran invasion. The gameplay has various aliens ... ...is the online multiplayer element. Resistance 2 has a relatively simple multiplayer format, with up to 60 players able to play in one game. Private games can be created with changeable settings, or ranked games can be found. These ranked games earn the player points, which in turn can increase their level.
However, the multiplayer modes are once again shown up by Call of Duty. Whereas Call of Duty has about 15 varied game modes, Resistance 2 has ...

Review of Resistance 2 (PS3)
Advantages: Amazing graphics - loads of enemies - loads of guns Disadvantages: No cover system - story not as well told as first
This game is just unbelievably amazing - when i read some reviews from gamespot - it said your jaw will drop - and it really really does.
Graphics - The graphics are superb - the environments are absolutely amazing - throughout the game you are taken to many different environments from a forest to an abandoned town - and they all look amazing. The character and enemy animations are phenomenal - The sheer scale of the enemy is unbelievable.
From ... ...amazed and challenged - although I must admit - the monsters are quite easy to slay really - it just takes a bit of patience. The chimeran troops are very clever and will kill you if you are not careful and constantly aware. But like most games some of the enemies are very stupid - they just stand there and are killed quite easily - its when there in squads that they pose a real threat.
Weapons - there are a wide range of favourites - including ...

Advantages: graphics story, length of campain, multiplayer Disadvantages: enviroment, glitches, not darkness and online
== Resistance 2 == === Introduction === Resistnace 2... what a game, it is pretty good i must say, 60 player online, 8 player co-op, enormous campain, brillaint graphics overall its good... but there are a few things that i was disappointed with but there are many things that make it one of the best games on ps3. resistnce 2 is the aequal to resistance fall of man which was one of the premium lauch titles for the PS3, it did well but at points it ... ...it into resistance and all the bad made good and put that in to. so here we go my secong review. 1. not dark enough: every level and map you do it light and you can see everything and sometimes it seems to 7+ in scaryness 2. enviroment its always SUNNY all the time, every level, every map its sunny, there are no at night mission or rainy missons, just bright sunshine, almost as if the good guys choose only to go on missions if the weathers good. ...

Advantages: Amazing enemies and huge maps Disadvantages: Terrible offline mutiplayer. Bad story
== Resistance 2 ==
I really can't lie to you its not as good as the first one in a couple of parts :
# mutiplayer offline is terrible a real let down if your buying this for the mutiplayer offline don't.
#the story is really the same as gears of war ad half-life 2.
Thats it really the good points are :
#lots of new weapons all are fun and different .
#loads of new enemies just dying to get at you they are way different to anything you have ... ...to 60 players with really huge maps it is really somthing to die for.
#The campaign is huge and will take a few days to finish. #The graphics are brillant but nothing special towards now a day standards.
#The bosses are really massivse and make you look in awe and wonder at their size and detail so get ready for the battle of your life.
Good luck with this buy. ...

Advantages: Quite as a mouse,blue-ray Disadvantages: Missing some major downloadable content for new games
I have ever found any problems with this console ever it runs smoothly and as quite as a mouse.
It nearly never over heats unless your playing those all nighters every day.
It works perfectly as a blue-ray player you can connect up to 7 contollers to it but i know no game which uses that many yet.
It might weigh a ton but everything in it is needed.
Their are some brillant new titles out for only ps3 it like little big planet, Resistance2, uncharted 2, killzone 2 which are really good games.
It has a beautyful slender design.
The new home system thats only for ps3 and free to download and is great fun meeting new people and playing games.
You really can't get bettter console with the blue-ray becoming ever more important as the disks can how more every year which means bigger maps for games and more detail and less loading time ...
Advantages: Nice Classy Design, Great Graphics, and a Good Online Disadvantages: Small Gamelist Thus Far and Some Games Suffer From Framerate and Graphical Pop-Up Issues
's games aren't great. The PS3 has a good number of exclusives including Killzone 2, Resistance, Metal Gear Solid 4 and their new exclusive Infamous.
So, how does the PS3 stand in the console generation? It stands pretty good on its own but if you already own a 360, i don't recommend this game system because there isn't much difference between the two but if you haven't upgraded to this generation of consoles then by all means check it out. ...
Advantages: Blu-ray, free online, nice extras like vidzone & iplayer. Almost silent operation Disadvantages: Rubbish controller, still expensive, online nowhere near as good as xbox live
nothing on the system excited me that I couldn't already get for my 360! The exceptions to this rule being Killzone 2 & Resistance. In fairness, the PS3 hasn't been out as long as the 360, so I'm guessing the situation will improve as time progresses.
Extras-Some nice ideas here from Sony, Vidzone isn't bad, altho the selection is a bit limited, movie trailers can be downloaded in 1080P(the 360 just gives a streamed SD trailer) but not full audio. Built in i-player is nifty altho not much use to me, as I'm on cable which gives me it in normal tv quality, but I guess it'll work for sky/freeview people out there. Yeah, they threw in a browser, but don't waste your time, fire up your PC & get what you are doing a lot faster, they have made a decent effort to work it, but for me, it needs a zoom(my apologies if there is one & I've missed it) as I ...
Resistance 2 transports players across the Atlantic to a besieged 1950s America where it builds on Fall of Man's legacy. There will be bigger battles, spectacular landscapes and an even more gripping narrative told from Hale's perspective - alongside an unprecedented online eight-player co-operative mode in which players meet to tackle specially-designed campaigns together. The Resistance story continues to unfurl with protagonist Sergeant Nathan Hale. Having destroyed the London command centre of the invading alien Chimera, Hale returns to the United States where he becomes part of a special programme known as the Sentinels - a secret weapon against the Chimera assault that the US government knows is imminent. When the Chimera launch a full-scale aerial assault on both coasts, Hale and the Sentinels find themselves in the forefront of the counter-attack.
