Teaching us to sell ... ANYTHING

Advantages: broad course, lots of support
Disadvantages: Lots of group work which can get frustrating as all group members receive the same mark.

I have been pleasantly suprised by this course. I was not too sure what it would involve before I began it, as you can never really tell what it will be like from reading prospectuses. However the course has given me a good broad knowledge of the business world, as well as much knowledge specific to retailing. ...confined to retailing at the end of your course. (This is good as many people do change their mind during their course regarding the career they'd like, whatever course they're doing.) It also means if you do go into retailing you understand the broader picture of how the business is run rather than just your side of it.

Interesting course - excellent University

Advantages: Wide subject base, excellent links with industry, Interesting subjects and well qualified lecturers
Disadvantages: None

I chose to study Retail Management at Loughborough cos' to be completely honest I hadn't a clue what to do when I finished my A Levels. I'd worked in Retail before and that seemed to be the only industry sector that I was remotely interested in. The course itself lasts 4 years with a sandwich placement in year 3. After speaking to loads of others who went to different Universities on Business type courses, I am definately glad I chose Loughborough. ...

Michael Page Recruitment, mixed response...

Advantages: Diligent, client list, professional
Disadvantages: Losing candidate focus

Michael Page are one of the biggest recruitment agencies in the UK. They have an impressive client list containing most of the top blue-chip organisations and have specialisms including finance, acountancy, retail and business management. Personally, I've had both very good and very bad experiences from the retail division. I initially contacted Michael Page some 6/7 years ago when I was seeking a move within the retail market. On receiving my CV they were quick to respond and diligently invited me in for an initial meeting to discuss different opportunities. They are refreshingly good in giving you good straight forward and honest advice regarding your CV and how you come across. They will also give you a plethora of information about each opportunity they have at the time. Michael Page retail placed me with a large organisation ...
