Advantages: Good plot with plenty of suprises, technical knowledge Disadvantages: Poor and predictable characters
; the strong ambitious female lead character, well-educated, lives on her own, has trouble committing to long-term relationships and has a strained relationship with other family members. Throw in the love interest, usually a colleague from a partner agency, possibly someone working on the same case and along with him comes a colleague, plain-speaking, considered boorish by some but with a heart of gold. Yes, JillianeHoffman understands the formula and has produced a predictable set of characters that brings nothing new to the genre.
The one problem I had was with the defence attorney, supposedly a ruthless and ambitious lawyer who later undergoes the most ludicrous change in character - comepletely unbelievable!
Just as well then that the story is pretty good with plenty of twists and turns and which, when all becomes clear, you can look ...
Advantages: Fast Pace, Page Turner Disadvantages: A Bit Gruesome
Isn’t it wonderful when you receive a book as a free gift and it turns out to be the most riveting read of the year so far.
Retribution is JillianeHoffman’s debut novel and if this is anything to go by she will become as popular as James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham rolled into one. Hoffman, a new name to add to the long list of American lawyers who have turned from prosecuting crime to writing about it, has come up with a winning formula.

Dr David Marquette has been accused of brutally killing his wife and children. When Julia visits the crime scene, she finds herself overwhelmed and sick to the stomach by the horrors of the crime. However she decides to fight her fears to make sure the brutal murderer gets a death sentence. Julia's job is made a lot harder when the defence lawyer announces he wants to declare the defendant David Marquette legally insane in which case he would not be charged for the murders. Julia researches Marquette's alleged schizophrenia and discovers terrifying links to her own ...
We all worry about what others think of us. We all long to succeed and fear failure. We all suffer to a greater or lesser degree, usually privately and with embarrassment from status anxiety. For the first time, Alain de Botton gives a name to this universal condition and sets out to investigate both its origins and possible solutions. He looks at history, philosophy, economics, art and politics and reveals the many ingenious ways that great minds have overcome their worries. The result is a book that is not only entertaining and thought-provoking but genuinely wise and helpful as well.
