    Advantages Advantages Everything is 99p

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The long queues

Retailer - 99p stores 99p red balloons go buy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Store owner, Nadir Lalani ‘s clever ideology of bringing the 99p Store to the High Street is a piece of marketing genius, as the 99p is a DNA force that magnifies the need for bargains that have been in-built in the human psyche since we were in African tribes. Making 99p Stores more than just picking up a bargain, but being part of what we already are collectors of tat. We are inundated with media storms of credit crunching, greed and total mayhem amongst our authoritarians. Nothing is shock worthy anymore. News items of ... more

Advantages Advantages Great bargains to be had.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Staff look a bit misserble.

I had never really heard of 99p stores until my boyfriend and I went Christmas shopping in Birmingham recently. My boyfriend joked (well at least I think he was joking) that my eyes lit up when I saw the store, because it was one whole penny cheaper than shopping in Poundland. Obviously I just had to go in and see if there were any bargains to be had. There are currently 117 stores across the UK by an Entrepreneur named Nadir Lalani, according to the website he has an aim to have at least 200 stores open by 2010. ***The Store*** The particular store that I went in was really quite big ... more

Advantages Advantages One price throughout the store, cheap & cheerful.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Stock varies from visit to visit

Review of 99p Stores The concept of 'cheap' stores is not a new one, Poundland, Poundsavers, Poundstretchers have all paved the way towards cheaper than High St shops and become familiar in our towns. 99p Stores were new to me however. I first visited a branch last year in the Weston Favell shopping centre near Northampton and have become a devotee. The shop was a delight! Row upon row of stock all at the magical figure of 99p. Now I may be a cheapskate, but I'm not stupid and I am well aware that the 99p pricing is a psychological weapon, it's under a pound so we think we've got a bargain and ... more

Advantages Advantages Some good bargains, especially on branded goods.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to be careful to avoid the poorer quality goods.

Soon after Woolworths shut in our small town centre, the 99p Store opened in their place. I thought that I would miss Woolworths, but the great value items that I have bought from the 99p Store over the past 18 months have changed my mind. MILD Disadvantages Good bargain hunting is an art, wherever you try to practise it. Not everything the 99p Store sells is great value for money. Some items can be a little dearer than might be found in other shops, while the quality of others is suspect. If you are on a tight budget, but have time to shop around, you should check out all your local shops' ... more

Advantages Advantages Bargains, friendly staff, well stocked, quick queues.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You sometimes get what you pay for.

Picture a typical winter scene. Not the snow filled and lamp-lit Victorian Christmas scene. Rather, The Boyfriend in a thin jumper and me in a Parka and hipsters combination which leaves an unpleasantly chilly gap, walking between 1960's buildings in a freezing wind. Eyes down on the damp concrete to avoid grit in our faces and a general demeanour of determination. I realise that I have been a bit stressed lately. Settling into a new job is difficult, as is the journey involved, Christmas is impending and I am still broke from my pan-European jaunt. Despite my denial of it all and my ... more

    Advantages Advantages Some Good Bargains

Disadvantages Disadvantages Obscure Food Products, Not Everything Is A Bargain

A new discount Store has opened fairly recently in Sheffield where I live called the 99p Stores and I have found it almost impossible to walk past it without popping in and having a quick look around. I had assumed that this was a one off Store until I recently read an article in a Newspaper which said that the 99p Stores were one of the fastest growing Retailers in the UK. THE BACKGROUND 99p Stores is the trading name of Whistletop Discount Stores Ltd which began trading with the opening of their first Store in Epsom, Surrey back in 1991. The concept was the brainchild of a local entrepreneur ... more

Advantages Advantages Huge range of products at unbeatable prices

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Over spending

As I have been away from my home town for some time, it was quite a shock to see the changes that have taken place.. one of the strangest was the 99p shop.... not that the pound shop was enough, but now someone has been able to move in and beat what was once the cheapest place to shop. The 99p shop, a great place for bargains, but be warnerd, be organised, visit and purchase the items you need. With isles of so called bargains, covering every category imaginable I enjoyed my shopping experience. The first and only visit so far to the store, I noticed straight away how the baskets were larger ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap products (not literally). Well known brands. Nice layout.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Queues can be too long. Some of their stuff is rubbish.

I am the sort of person who is always on the lookout for a good bargain, and when a 99p store opened just down the road from where I live a couple of months ago, I was rather pleased, and eager to test out what they were like. Walking in the shelves are packed with products and goods with familiar brand names, like Flash cleaning products and Coca Cola. This immediately gained favour with me as some of the other discount stores I have been in offer brands from the other side of the planet that nobody's heard of. For example, I bought a big bag of Starburst sweets for guess how much (yes, 99p) ... more

Advantages Advantages Great if you like biscuits and cakes. Reasonable prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some products are complete tat. Can get better bargains elsewhere

Well it had to happen didnt it! There has of course been the huge phenomenon of the pound stores, but someone had to go one better! I suppose its a bit too much for it to continue down to a penny? Actually with this economic climate its probably not! I only know of this particular one although I know there is a fair few across the country, this is the one in Harpurhey, Manchester I'll be looking at. The outside reminds me very much of the Card Factory with its bright blue and yellow logo. Its not that attractive to be fair, it looks quite cheap and gaudy. Walking in it looks very much like any ... more

    Advantages Advantages -

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

I've always loved pound shops - a great place to pick up cheap cosmetics and beauty products, cleaning supplies, and tasty treats for the store cupboard . But why pay a pound when you could be paying 99P - so when a 99p store opened in Nottingham a couple of years ago, I started going there instead . The store is located in Broadmarsh Shopping Centre - and has lots of competition nearby, with 2 pound shops in the same shopping centre, and at least another two in the city centre . But, it's a penny cheaper! The store is on the first floor, just opposite where the lifts come out, and I do have ... more
