You can either pay for a course of lessons (in any multiples you want e.g 6 , 12 etc.) and receive a small discount (£2 per hour) for "block booking" 12 lessons at a time or pay as you go (very handy if you run out of cash before payday!) As an AA driving instructor it is of great concern to me Patricia that I read comments about my AA colleagues that are less than complimentary and I would hate to think that we were now all tarred with the same brush by you as I can assure you that we are not all like that. I take great pride in what I do and I do it with the pupil taking precedent. As things turned out in the middle of the tuition, all would have appeared to be satisfactory until the time before the test. I obviously cannot make any comment about the instructor going awol as I don't know what happened. Again, at the very least, the instructor could have put you in the picture ...

THE AA AS AN ORGANISATION...
The main reason I chose the AA over BSM was the price. At full price both schools charge £18 in my area, but if you book a slot of 12 lessons with the AA, then the price is cut to £16 a lesson. If you’re a student BSM offer a discount making each lesson £16.40.

...left a choice between the AA and the BSM. The main difference between the two at the time was that the AA used Ford Fiestas and BSM used Vauxhall Corsas. I chose the AA even though my Mum owned a Corsa. Both of the driving schools charged 18 pound for an hour lesson at the time but if you booked 12 lessons at a time the AA charged only 16 pounds instead of 16.40. This isn’t much of a saving but they did offer free Membership of the AA when you bought ... ...the packs also include free AA membership, the level of cover is just roadside assistance, which means if they can’t repair the vehicle at the side of the road you will be towed to the garage or home – whatever is closest. This is really handy if your friends drive rickety old bangers as the cover is for you and not the car so you can still call them out even if you are a passenger! ...was a pupil of the AA Driving School for almost a year and at £180 for 12 lesson it wasn't cheap. I have to say the service was appalling. After 3 instructors and 2 failed tests I ended up changing schools and passing with a completely different firm here is my experience.

...started driving lessons with the AA Driving School. Working for another company that was under their parent company (Centrica) It seemed to make sense to use them (plus I was being lazy). I phoned a call centre, block booked 14 lessons (for a discount)and was given the name of an instructor and a lesson time. It was easy.

OK, I know that the AA are not an independent driving school but seeing as they didn't have their own category then I thought I would fit them in here.
Well, I have only had about 14 lessons so far, but I think that has given me good enough experience to write about the AA. Obviously I can't comment on the test but I guess I can always update this opinion later.
The car:

Well, with the quality of the instruction you can't generalise. ...about having lessons with the AA is you know that they are a reputable company. They aren't suddenly going to run off with your money and they aren't going to give you a death-trap to drive. In fact they change the cars relatively frequently, I've driven two in 6 months. They change them to exactly the same model and it took me one lesson to get to grips with the slightly different sensitivities of the pedals but otherwise it was fine. The lessons ... ...gave me 1 years free AA Membership. Hoorah Hooray! Except that I won't be doing any driving in my own car at the earliest 6 months into that membership. Never mind, at least I get their lovely magazine.

I have ruled out using a local driving school because i will be moving back and forth from uni and home and wanted a school which could give me lessons anywhere. To be honest there isnt much difference between BSM and The AA. The cost is similar, ie expensive. BSM offer £2 off each lesson if you are a student. AA offer £2 off each lesson if you book 12 in one payment.
In the end i went with AA because my ... ...So i went on the AA site and theres a form in which you obtain a quote based on how many lessons you wish and where you live by clicking on your postcode. 12 lessons in june 2006 cost me £264, this includes the £2 discount on each lesson. Yes its alot of money! Once i paid using a debit card online i was given a pupil identity code which you can use a reference when dealing with the AA. I started with the AA after LDC or something like that, who were also after money, [but thats another story]. I then went with BSM for a few lessons but found out some of their instructors were not qualified and the guy teaching me was mean [but thats another story].
I was up north at the time and the lessons were 24 pounds an hour, or 22 if I paid for 12, which i did. And I thought going with a big company would be great as there is little chance ... ...outside. So I called the AA and they said I should ring him and discuss it with him as he was going to charge for the lesson. So I quizzed him about why he turned up when i didnt ring to confirm, then he realised I wasnt stupid and he said he wouldnt charge for it.
When I moved to london area i kept the same school and got an instructor who had just passed his exams [only found out after a few lessons]. He seemed a nice person but to be honest I ...

In comparison The AA have been extremely profesional and have provided a checklist of what I will learn. I understand they also have other printed materials to give out in due course. The car is brand new, and even with a change every six months there should not be a big difference in the handling between the new and old car. The private company ran a policy of finishing the lesson by collecting the next pupil who would then drive the previous ... ...pub or nightclub. With the AA I have not seen another pupil at all.
On the whole I think The AA is more professional than the private school I used, but I'm sure some private schools are better. I think the overriding thing is that you are happy with the instructor, regarless of who they work for. ...

...a friend to try the AA driving school so I picked up the phone and nervously rang the number and booked a day for the following week.
That night I received a phone call from the driving instructor to whom I had been assigned, he could tell that I was really nervous about learning to drive but he calmed me down and arranged a different appointment as the AA had double booked him. The instructor had a really calming and although I was nervous at the ... ...you receive a years free AA membership a discount and a £100 holiday voucher (which I didnt receive). The instructors will even take you through the pass plus course once you pass your test if you want.
I even took double lessons each time as I found that you get more done in 1 double lesson than you do in 2 single lessons. This can be expensive as it costs £19 an hour in my area.
I would recommend anybody to use the AA driving school if they are ...
