Advantages Advantages Cool Quiet and powerful

Disadvantages Disadvantages Soon to be replaced

The current AMD 64 is another one of those unsung heroes. This is a 64 bit processor, so it’s going to run the applications and operating systems of tomorrow, but still runs 32 bit applications now, so you don’t need to wait for the software to support it. It’s also very powerful, benchmarking against the top Intel 3ghz+processors, this chip(which actually runs nearer 2ghz) really gives them a run for their money. The best part though is that this processor can be made VERY quiet. Let’s look at this aspect first. Cool n’ Quiet technology. The title says it all, AMD 64 processors have a ... more

Advantages Advantages Best Bang for Buck

Disadvantages Disadvantages Little 64-bit Software Support

AMD have really got the right mix of ideas in this CPU, not only was it one of the first 64-bit CPUs on the market (a long time before Intel had a 64-bit CPU) it is also a major leap from the old SocketA CPUs. Well whats changed? The CPU is now hidden under a heatspreader, much like the Pentium4. This gives added protection when installing the CPU into the socket and makes applying the thermal interface material (TIM) a lot easier. The socket arrangement is now alot better then old Socket A. Sockets 754, 939 and 940 all are the same size and have the same retention bracket making the Heatsink ... more

Advantages Advantages Price - Runs Vista

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite Hot -

I recently used this processor when upgrading from a Sempron 2800+, which had come to the end of its lifespan. This processor, was great from the start. It was easy to install (Though I recommend getting a professional to do it, if you don't know much about computers yourself.), Simply putting it into the Socket 939 compatible motherboard, with a small blob of thermal paste (Supplied) and then placing the heatsink on top. Wack on the fan, and you're ready to go. It runs reasonably quietly, but if your looking for that "Silent PC" i'd say replace the fan/heatsink. Thats how easy it is. I've ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great overclocking Facilities

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fiddly to install, recommend a pro

I brought this processor approximately 2months ago as an upgrade from my old processsor. I found that for the money it was a tremendous upgrade, and that it was just right for a computer with graphic design capabilities, The processor runs without any hesitation or lag, it has plenty of overclocking facilities if you wish to push more power out of your mahcine, which i decided not to, but as a test i did overclock it to 3500 which out any problems, as for the cooler, this is to be more desired i would recommend you buy a different cooler as the standard one is rather loud. Brilliant processor ... more

4 Stars Quick review of AMD Athlon 64 3200+ / 2 GHz processor by gaffaesq 22/08/2007
Ok, so the socket 939 technology is now over 2 years old, but if you are not bothered by the 'must haver the latest' vibe then you can do a lot worse than buy this. Going for around 20 quid on some famous auction sites this chip represents a great buy. Combined with a decent graphics card it will run most games and vista without any trouble.

Extremely good processor. Easy to fit, very reliable, very fast, no problems. Runs nice and quiet, keeps cool. Spot on. I have tested this processor for hours without turning it off and I am also running an always on server on it now which runs without fault. Its powering many virtual machines as well!. It never crashes, never overheats and it can easily be overclocked if necessary! Highly recommended. I believe this processor speed to be 2 Ghz however it performs at much higher. I recommend this over the equivalent intel for a desktop/server. Comes with very useful instruction manual and ... more

Advantages Advantages frigging amazing for the cost, comes with big but quiet fan. 64bit, fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

if you want a fast system but have no money for one go with this and notch the speed up a bit. I'm running every game I have including Quake 4, GRAW and Rainbow 6 Vegas at maxed settings with 4x anisotrophic filtering and 4x FSAA and I never dip below 35FPS. I DECIDED TO DO A SOCKET 939 BUILD WITH THIS PROCESSOR AFTER USEING INTEL CPU'S FOR YEARS AND I HAVE TO SAY I AM VERY PLEASED SO FAR. I MANAGED TO OVERCLOCK THIS VENICE CORE CPU TO 2500 MHZ STABLE WITH A ARTIC COOLING FREEZER 64 PRO CPU COOLER ON A JETWAY 939GT4-SLI BOARD WITH PROPER BIOS TUNEING PERFORMACE IS NOTHING LESS THAN IMPRESSIVE ... more
