Full review
The AMD XP3200+ is currently AMDs only processor capable of running on 400Mhz FSB motherboards without the need for overclocking, the processor is a socket A and you will need a compatible motherboard .

Processors running on higher FSB (front side bus) speeds tend to get a better response when processing information, this is a big plus to consider when looking to upgrade to a AMD XP3200+ processor for your computer system.

On most of todays socket A motherboards you will see that the processor frequency can be set at three different levels 133 for running 266mhz processors, 166 for running 333mhz processors and 200 for 400mhz processors, this is a must have piece of information that you will need to know especially when looking to purchase a processor, this is usually contained in your motherboards manual or at their official website, the AMD XP 3200+ is a 400mhz processor so your processor frequency should be set at 200, this is automatically done with some motherboards or you will have to change the jumper setting manually.

Though the core clock speed is set at 2.2Ghz on the AMD XP3200+, with the advanced instruction set contained on the Barton core, this means the AMD XP 3200+ processor is comparable in speed and performance to a Pentium 4 running at 3.2Ghz, hence the XP3200+.

The AMD XP3200+ now includes 3DNow! Professional Technology which further enhances your 3D gaming experience, offering faster access to the processor while playing labour intensive 3D games. Already packed with 3DNow! Advanced Technology (contained on previous processor versions) this added feature will give yet another added bonus when playing games.

The AMD XP3200+ comes with a generic heatsink and fan contained in the retail package.

The heatsink and fan for me was the only negative thing i found wrong with this product.

First of all when trying to attach the heatsink and fan to the motherboard i found this to be very difficult due to the clips on the brackets being very small and fiddly, i had to physically remove the motherboard from the case so i could get easier access to the clips.

Secondly the AMD XP3200+ is a processor that runs at quite a high temperature due to its processing power and therefore i found the processor was running above 50 degrees centigrade when idle and approaching 70 degrees plus when playing 3D games. My motherboard has a 70 degrees cut off threshold which means the computer will shutdown when the processor reaches 70 degrees, while using the generic heatsink and fan my computer was shutting off quite regularly which was quite alarming.

My advice to anyone when buying a high end processor is pay that little bit extra for a heatsink and fan from a reputable manufacturer which specialises in extreme cooling and also purchase some thermal compound to put on the processor core, this will help absorb the heat and keep the core temperature down.

Overall if your looking to make your AMD computer system run like a 3.2Ghz computer at low cost then the AMD XP3200+ could be right up your street, but be prepared to pay at bit more for a decent heatsink and fan.

Review of AMD Athlon XP 3200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by Omertron

Advantages: Speed, speed and more speed
Disadvantages: Heat

Having recently decided to purchase a server PC for my home network, I decided that rather than spending circa £50 on an average processor for the new PC, I would upgrade my Athlon XP 2800+ Barton CPU to a new 3200+ for only £50 extra (the 3200+ retails at around £100) I bought the OEM version of the processor, having already got the system in place with heatsink and fan. Having remembered how to take the heatsink off the old CPU (Involves using ...
...and removed the old CPU gently, I inserted the new CPU, added a good blob of silicon coolant, this helps the CPU to pass heat to the heatsink and therefore dissipate the heat more effectively, and then refitted the heatsink and fan (taking the opportunity to clear a lot of dust from the fins of the heatsink). Once the system was powered on and active, the first thing I noticed was that the CPU was running quite hot 62C. I haven't managed to run ... Read review

Rapid CPU
Review of AMD Athlon XP 3200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by Haggisinlondon

Advantages: Rapid processor, can use in Socket A motherboard, FSB speed
Disadvantages: Runs hot, need Ram upgrade to take advantage

I got this processor as a gift and was very chuffed as its the fastest my motherboard can take being a socket A. The only thing I did have to do it upgrade my PC2100 Ram ro PC3200 Ram to take advantage of the faster FSB speed. But its now rapid. I cannot believe the difference moving from my 2400+ to this cpu. Flogged my old cpu and ram and got the quicker ram. So overall the upgrade did not cost very much. I did not want to buy a new motherboard ... Read review

Athlon XP 2.2ghz
Review of AMD Athlon XP 3200+ / 2.2 GHz processor by avidgamez

Advantages: Cost effective, stable and easy installation
Disadvantages: Will struggle on the very latest generation of games

If you need a fast chip for day to day work and some low to medium level gaming this is the chip for you. It runs at a very low and stable temperature even under load, which will improve the stabilty of the chip. It also is very easy to install, including a installation guide. If you want a budget processor for gameing however this still is a good choice, it will smoothly run most games apart from the latest games such as DOOM 3 or F.E.A.R. But if ... Read review
